i spent my driving breaks stopping at every Triumph dealer I could find between memphis and Vicksburg today. I FINALLY got to see a grahite America and a jet black Speedy in person today. I have been back and forth a thousand times over these two bikes. I looked very hard at the Black Speedy and it really caught my eye. The $700 price difference between the two seems well woth it considering all the upgrades that come on the Speedy. I have to make my mind up tommorrow - i am calling the dealer in Chattanooga and having him set up a black speedy for me to pick up on Friday morning (i dont think I will change my mind again). I really dig the blacked out engine. If i could get the two tone gray tank and fenders from an america put on that speedy, it would be perfect. Doubt he will do that for me though. I hope I am making the right choice - any words of encouragement would help me - anything that anybody wishes to offer??? I hate being wishy washy.

Man, what an idea! I love that America color scheme.
Don't feel bad, I nearly stroked out trying to chose between the America and Speedmaster. You really can't go wrong with either. For many it becomes a choice of the chrome look or blacked-out look.
Good luck!

Hate to sound like a broken record, but the black engine has a huge (to me at least) hidden bonus you get with it.....it's stupid easy to keep clean. Plus the other black things and you have a bike that you can make sparkle like it just left the showroom in literally 10-15 minutes. When i first put up pics of my bike everyone made comments on how clean it was and that i must spend all my time cleaning instead of riding ! Funny thing is, i hardly spend any time cleaning compared to what i used to spend on other bikes. get some lemon pledge for the engine and it makes it look brand new and coats it with a slick film that keeps it clean for a long time. If you think about it, the engine is the hardest thing to keep clean because of the million nooks and crannies. So the black is a breeze. That textured finish also doesn't show dirt like a flat suface thats black.
Like you i felt the alloy wheels, tach, and dual discs was worth thr extra $. That was part of the reason i couldn't deny the speedy over the america. of course looks had a BIT to do with it. :-D Then again, to each his own and some much prefer the america and don't care about the extras on the speedy. But sounds to me like you do, so i say go for the master !

I echo Dazco's sentiments on getting a bike with a blacked-out engine. My last two bikes were chromed to the max and I got to where I literally HATED the hours I spent polishing my bike. When I sold my chromed-out victory, I only looked for bikes with Blacked-out engines (HD nighttrain; Victory 8-ball; Triumph SM...). If the engine wasn't blacked-out I didn't even bother giving it a 2nd look.
I have had my 2k5 SM for 4 months now and am going on 4,000 miles (would be more but had shoulder surgery in January!). Great bike! The more miles I put on the more it seems to be loosening up and with pipes and a future FREAK on the way I can only imagine what it is going to run like.
From a very biased SM owner, get the SM!

I think that Graphite America is absolutely beautiful.....I saw ione in person at the dealer here, if it had been on the floor last year when I bought my T100, I would probably be riding the America now. Stunning.
The Spedy is a good choice too, of course, you gaotta get the bike that calls to you!

You can't beat the black speedmaster for that classic look.
Excellent choice!
