Not wanting to start a which is best debate but I am finding it hard to choose between these two as both seem an excellent choice and wondered what the respective merits of either were based upon ownership experience on this forum.
Thanks

Harry, it's a tough decision because they're both great bikes. The day I bought my Speedmaster I sat on the America and the Speedy, each about 79 times. :-D And that was after 4 previous trips to drool over them.

I picked the Speedmaster with the help of a friend that knows bikes. He really liked the look of it, especially the blacked out engine. He pointed out the lack of chrome and asked if I wanted to ride it or polish it. Not that there's anything wrong with the chrome on the America, it's just a different look.

You really can't go wrong with either. To me they're more alike than not. Just slightly different versions of the same great idea. Excellent middleweight cruisers! A nice combination of power, styling, handling and price.
Good luck!

If it was me, I'd take the speedy in a heartbeat. No doubt what-so-ever.
But I just love the look of the blacked out engine and the mag wheels and the single seat compared to the America.
But if you really can't decide then just go with the America because it's cheaper! And other than the blacked out engine and the expense of the wheels, you can make either look like either. The difference in engine isn't really noticeable. One has more hp and one has more torque and neither is really enough to make a noticeable difference.
So if neither speaks to you right away, get the America.
Isn't it great knowing you can't make a bad decision?

I know exactly what you mean. Tough decision.

I think you get a little more bang for the buck if you pick the speedmaster. Alloy wheels, little more engine and I think the speedmaster has a tach.

But when I look at the america it just really grabs me when I look at it.. I personally prefer the chrome over the blacked out look. But to each there own. Just go for the one that grabs you. You can't go wrong with either one of them and your going to LOVE which ever one you choose.

yeah i'm with you guys i was having the same problem trying to choose between the america and the speedy. in the end i chose the speedy mainly because the dealer who sold me the bike had pre- reg'd the bike it had 2 miles on the clock and knocked a grand off the price

Can't go wrong with either:
Chrome or black-out?
Wide or flat bars (both work on either model)? I rode the Speedy and hated the bars, didn't know how easy they are to switch.
Wire wheels or mags?
Dual discs are nice, so is the big motor but I love my chrome bits. Tough decision - good luck!
