I was moving the Bonne to get it out the left side garage door (the right side door spring had broke), and bumped my sons bicycle which fell against the rear fender, putting a 4 inch long, deep scratch above the reflector on the right side. I ordered some touch up paint for it and we'll see how that works. In case it doesn't I was thinking of going chrome, anyone know where I can get the stock type fender only in chrome? I know Triumph makes the chrome front fender (mud guard) but I didn't see a rear one offered.

I would throw all bicycles out of my garage before I do anything else!

One day I was working away on the bike, had the seat off to do some stuff. My daughter (8) was out in the shop "helping". I hear this "clunk, scrrrratttcchhh" noise and look up to se her putting my "magnet-on-a-stick" on the tank and dragging it across the paint! Left a 5" scratch, the first major blemish....After recovering from my minor heart attack, I gently took the magnet from her and asked her not to stick tools on Daddy's bike...We finished the job and had a great afternoon together with the motorcycle. I never did fix the scratch cause every time I look at it I remember working on the bike with her.

That's a great story. I have a 6" scratch on the drivers door of my BMW from when my two year old son "helped" me wash it. Every time I look at it I fume a bit. But now maybe it will have a whole other meaning!

Bob: sorry about the "first scratch." They are ALWAYS the hardest. But the touch up will work fine. Sue's bike is black and silver, mostly black, and she dropped it when she first got it and had a couple of deep scratches on the rear fender. A tube of plain black gloss touch up paint from the auto supply and she was back in business. Black touches up much easier than other colors and the repair visually blends in better. I know that I will cringe at the first scratch on my new bike - but it will inevitably happen. Glad the bike is black.

Wonderful story, Copper. You are some understanding Dad! I applaud you.

I purchased the rear fender removal kit some time ago and installed it on my bike. I knew that I would want to switch back and forth with the fender so I put it in a "safe place" so it wouldn't get damaged. So I am out cleaning the garage on a lovely Saturday morning with my two year old and five year old (I think you can see where this is going) amd I am admiring the organization of my tools and how everything was in it's place and things just couldn't be better when I turn around and see my five year old and two year old in a tug of war with my fender. I didn't yell I just asked them to bring it to me. They threw it down and ran off shattering the tail light and scratching the fender pretty bad. I put the light back together with some crazy glue and had to remove the turnsignals. The Triumph touch up paint worked great and you can't even see the scratches.

Lessoned learned. Don't let the children in the garage.

It happens, it was only a matter of time before it got scratched.

It's stories like these that make me grimace whenever anyone posts asking if it's a good idea to leave one's motorcycle on a bike lift for a while. The obvious answer is; not if you have kids.

stevieteabags, I'm glad to hear the touch up paint worked well, that's what I'm hoping will work for me.

Nobody commented on the availability of a chrome rear fender, none out there?

As for a chrome rear fender, I know some guys have used an old chrome fender of a Honda CB something from the 80's, they can be had cheap on E-bay. Sorry I don't know the details....
