Hey All,
I know this topic has come up recently, but I think it's time to visit it again.
I am increasingly frustrated with the way the forums are split. We have the "Twin Talk" forum , which is dedicated to all of the vertical twin Triumphs, including the Bonneville, Thruxston, Scrambler, Bonneville America, and SM (what does that even stand for?). Then we have the "Club Cafe" forum, which is dedicated to the Thruxton and anyone in the Bonneville camp who wants to turn their Bonneville into a Thruxton.
The problem is that no one uses the Club Cafe forum, and everyone who posts into the Club Cafe forum must also post into the Twin Talk forum if they hope to get any responses to their post. This need for redundancy makes it obvious to me that the Club Cafe forum just isn't doing anything. Time to get rid of it, I think, or else turn it into something more helpful.
My feeling about this latter option is that we need two forums; one dedicated to the Bonneville and its knockoofs (the Thruxton and Scrambler) and a second dedicated to the cruisers (the Bonneville America and the SM).
I know, we've had this discussion recently, and it was decided to keep things the way they are. This was based on the idea that all of the vertical twins are, in fact, the same engine, so let's keep them together. So why does the Thruxton get it's own departmenrt?
My feeling is that all of the people who own the Bonneville/Thruxton/Scrambler are going to be interested in the same things; how to improve their basic engine AND how to improve the entire Bonneville package. The Bonneville/Thruxton/Scrambler package is essentially the same--let's keep it together. In fact, many of the products that fir one of these bikes will fit the others. This isn't as true of the Americas and SMs.
Owners of the BA and SM should have their own forum, where they can read about dresser bars and handlebar bags and ape hangers and all of the topics that owners of the Bonneville derivitives, let's face it, just don't care about.
In essense, I suggest that insterad of basing our forums on engines, lets base them on bike styles. The Bonneville, Thruxton and Scrambler are close enough to be in the same forum, while the cruisers deserve their own forum. That makes much more sense to me than the underutilized (and essentially useless) Club Cafe forum.
Thank you.
Mancha

Speed Master.. I think one forum should be ... Bonneville, Thruxton, Scrambler. I don't consider the Bonneville a cruiser, at least not mine. :-D

I agree with mancha. I have a thrux but I find myself always looking at both forums and the twins forum has much more volume thus more info. I say lets put all the twins back in one place. -T1

I never understood why the Thruxton guys were off in another group,it IS a Bonneville after all, probably closer than a Speedmaster.I say lump everyone in together, engines is engines.I just don't read America handlebar threads,or Speedmaster wheel stuff, doesn't apply to me.Just like I don't read windscreen threads for any bike.

I am assuming that you are also posting this in the Suggestions forum that Shawn watches pretty closely. He will make the call so be sure to get your opinion to him by posting it there.
Personally, what you say has a certain logic, but the fact is that if we split out all the Trumpet Twin cruiser riders we will lose some of my favorite posters. I LIKE those guys and would hate to lose contact with them. I know that it doesn't HAVE to happen and I can hang around over there with them too. But, over time, and not too much time at that, someone will say, "Hey, Monte, what are you doing over here? Don't you have your own forum?"
So what we have got may not be so logical, but it is nice for me the way it is. As for the Cafe forum I see no reason why it couldn't be folded in here if that is what its users really want to do.
Shawn has good instincts about such things, is always willing to listen and I will respect whatever he decides. Truth is, whether I respect it or not, it is his decision.

Let's leave it up to Mr. Bloor.
If Triumph comes out with a 1200cc cruiser, then yes, they should be split.
I don't want to scroll through 1 million posts of Daz trying to soup up the new engine and TBA complaining about having to give up golf so he can afford the "new" bike......

The twins all have the same engines basically. different cams and a few cc's, but basically the same. I'd say ALL twins, cruisers, bonnies scramblers and thrux's should share a single forum. However, the place to post this would have been in the site suggestions forum really.

As per your suggestions, I've posted this over in the "Suggestions" forum. My thinking, however, is that it really belongs here where the people most affected can read and consider it.
Let me reiterate a little. For some reason we have two forums that are dedicated to the vertical twin motor. One is this forum, "Twin Talk", and the other is the "Cafe Club". When the Thruxston was just a glint in some designer's eye, the Cafe Club made sense. Now that it's been out for a while, it makes less sense. Everyone who posts there MUST post here to get any feedback. This makes the Cafe Club redundant. It might as well be done away with.
However, I still think that two forums is a good idea. I would prefer to see the cruisers--with their discussion of forks, highway pegs, etc--split off.
I know that we all have the same angines, but let's face it, few of us do anything to these engines. Instead we're all changing APPEARANCES. My feeling is that these appearance changes break down into two camps; the cruisers (SM's and BA's) and the Bonnevilles (Bonnevilles, T100's, Thruxstons, & Scramblers). IF we are to have two forums, my feeling is that such a split makes the most sense.
If, on the other hand, people are unwilling to make that split, then let's bow to reality and get rid of the Cafe Club. I'm getting sick of posting my threads in both forums, and I'm getting sick of needing to read both forums to find all the responses to the threads that most interest me.

For the record, I like having all the Bonnies here together. I have a T 100, but I have got ideas from the America/Speedy guys that I would have missed. I would really miss them, a lot of the people I really enjoy here own one of the "other" Bonnies.....
Just cause I own a standard Bonnie doesn't mean I don't enjoy and even consider myself a part o fthe cruiser culture.....Definitely more so than sportbikes/racers....
Anyway, my two cents, keep it the way it is. The Cafe forum is kind of like a sidebar focused on rcing/performance....
