I have a T100 and I'm thinking of going up a tooth or 2. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I go with the 18 or the 19 tooth? Can you use the stock chain with both? What tools do you need for the job? (like do I need a torque wrench)

First things first your bike comes standard with a 18t c/s. I'm pretty sure that's right. I put a 19t on my 05 T100 and what a difference. I was running 75mph at 4500rpm the other day.

To put it on you will need a 36mm socket to remove the large bolt holding on the c/s. you should also have a torque wrench to make sure you tighten up the bolt when your done. The torque value is in the owners manual.

Your stock chain is long enough, you may have to adjust your chain to make it longer and then readjust it when your done. It took me about 1 hr to change mine, but I'm as slow
as molasses going uphill.

It is really very easy to due and worth the effort. Have fun

Thats the only mod I've done to my T100 and I love it. I can actually cruise at interstate speed and not keep searching for a higher gear. I ride two up about 95% of the time and as far as I'm concerned I still have more than enough power. I did have to buy the socket from Sears but it was worth it.

I'm sold! I just ordered my 19 tooth front sprocket, heck I needed to adjust the chain anyway. Get to use my favorite lil' jack from sears again! Hey Brett, if you're reading this try to get it to me by Friday! I'm riding the bike out of town, I guess the Post Office will be closed though....

My '04 came with a 17 and I have an 18 on it now. I was doing about 75 to 77 at 4000 rpm. I find that with the 18 my first gear is almost too tall. Maybe your rear sprocket is different than mine.

The difference is probably in the bigger engine.

You might get it Friday. GF is not a postal holiday, I don't think. First Amendment and all.

I've got a 19 on my black bonneville, you'll love it if you do alot of hiway riding. I think I'll leave the 18 on the scrambler for now. I really don't notice much difference between the 2 in first gear.

Sweat,don`t jack up the bike until you get the sprocket loose.You need to apply the back brake to lock the back wheel.Please don`t just put it in gear.Its a bad thing.

A stock Bonneville comes with a 17 tooth countershaft sprocket. I have purchased an 18 tooth and a 19 tooth. I currently have the 19 tooth installed and love it. After you remove the cover over the countershaft sprocket you will need a 36 mm 6 point socket if I remember correctly. I had my wife hold the rear brake pedal down as I loosened the nut on the sprocket. This method applies the torque of breaking the nut free to the rear brake instead of the transmission. I have found the 19T is like an overdrive. What my bike used to tach in 5th gear, I now tach in 4th. IF your bike is unmodified I would probably try the 18T, because the taller gearing would eat up too much power.
