so,,, i refer to the wealth of internet knowledge...
here's the senario,
Yesterday,, i got on the bike and about a 1/4 mile down the road my engine turns off and rear wheel locks,,,, hmmm, grab the clutch open the rear and while it's still rolling hit the starter, starts up,,, seems ok,, so i jam on it in first, get up to about 5k and it happens again,, this time i pull into a parking lot, and stick it in neutral and just let the bike run for about 5 minutes, nothing other than running,,,, so i get on and drive away runs fine, later on in the day it happens again,, (both almost immediatly after a cold start.)
then it was running fine today,, tonight though,, i was riding for about 3 hours when i felt it sounded not normal (when i jam on a weird ticking sound like a bb bouncing around in the cylander,,,, so being not to far from home, i head there, pull in, turn the key off. then i go to restart, and while i'm holding the starter button i notice the oil light still on,, (it usually dissapears as soon as i touch the starter) it starts, oil light goes off then abruptly stops, oil light on,, when i go to start it again, it fights the start, like the starter motor is straining,, then i hear a pop somewhere in the void of my engine, then it starts, runs, keeps running,, then i felt it was idleing a little high,,, so i went to adjust the idle screw.
WHEN I BROUGHT THE IDLE DOWN,, THE OIL LIGHT STARTED PULSING WITH THE BEAT OF THE ENGINE, AHHHHHH
so i knew this was not a good sign, brought the idle back up a little and turned it off......
i am baffled i know not what the prob is. I will go out to the bike in a half hour so start it and see how she feels about that. anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think I would take it straight to your dealer, do not pass go, do not start it and plead ignorant about having ridden it in that condition.-

i will certainly be calling them in the morn. but i'ld love to hear some theories,,,,
a week ago the ai valve cracked,,, dealer said it happens sometimes,, so i just had it blocked off, could a peice of the valve be in the cylander,
i thought maybe the pop was something in the oil, could a particle have gotten into the oil flow,, thus restricting oil partially and causeing the pressure to run high/low

Hmmm....hate to even say this, but it sounds like it siezed. i had that happen on a 70's triumph. Got it started again too, but it was making noise cuz the cylinders were scuffed up badly. it was due to lack of oil after i changed it and din't put enough in. Whatever caused it, it sounds like it siezed, and with that "bb" sound i think a piece of metal broke loose in there. I hope i'm wrong but thats what it sound like. i had to rebuild the top end on mine.

Wow, that sucks.
Get it to the dealer as quickly as possible. A pitch a total fit, scream, yell, and cause a ruckus.

hmm.. I've had bikes do this, indeed a seized engine job. Some prob with the oil getting round. Do not run the engine until the prob has been looked into, very easy to trash the engine I've done this myself on a number of occasions.
Oil levels, type of oil, oil filter, contamination etc. all important.
Hopefully you might be under warranty but be sure what causes the problem first. Oil circulation is crucial to engines, very much like blood in humans.

Is there any oil in the engine and I can't imagine it was due to removing the AI. The dealer will probably due a compression check to see if the rings are shot. Don't start it anymore! Your feelings were right, something serious is wrong with you engine. Warranty time! It's a lemon. :hammer: Give me a different bike please. I should be able to rebuild this bike and bore it out three times but you are telling me your going to bore it out this soon?............. I would put a tell tale scratch on the cylinders and head to make sure they put brand new ones on. Put it on the underside of the fins so you cant see it so you can catch them red handed when they tell you it's all brand new. Take pics. You bought new, you deserve new. I'm really sorry to hear your having trouble with you brand new bike. Maybe they can give you a new bike or a least a loaner while your's is in the shop. ">

Can you see any oil in the oil window on the side of the engine?
Coincidence that someone posted the TCLOCS thread the same day?

One possible answer is that your idle speed is set too low. If you don't have a tach on the bike, then it's easy to set the speed too low going by ear.
You don't want a thump-a-da, thump-a-da type of cadence. You should be at about 1100rpm which is a steady purring sound.
