I installed a set of Progressive 440 rear shocks on my bike this winter. Finally, the weather broke somewhat here in MD and I've taken a few rides. I noticed a squeak from the right side shock. I squirted a little lithium grease on the shock shaft, but the squeak persisted. Tonight, I decided to remove the shock and put some grease on the two bushings and a little more lithium grease on the shock. As I went to remove the top fastener, discovered it was barely finger tight. Could that be my problem? Tightened it up and the squeak disappeared. All the other three fasteners were tight, so not sure what happened. Morale of the story for me is to pay attention to odd noises!

Timely post.

I took my rear wheel of this morning (as I have done a few times before....), and I am always made to feel a little uncomfortable about the absence of a cotter pin. Somebody pointed to the giant nut (not me) and indicated that they have a self locking addition to the nut BUT advised I add a dab of Blue Loctite.

I found the bolts at the top of my shocks to be loose too..... not to mention a few other places on my BRAND NEW project Bonnie I was taking apart?!?!?!

I think it might be to our benefit to attack our Bonnies in similar fashion to a Harley Sportster. Nip it in the bud, it could be a good project for down time of the season (of which we don't have here in California ((save for the recent month of rain)).

Fantastic so far on two short rides, two-up. No harsh pounding over bumps, railroad tracks etc. Very compliant. The shocks have a very wide range of suspension settings, I have them set very soft so far but will have to experiment with the other ranges. They look very well constructed and finished. I added stock height Progressive front fork springs as well, good-bye nose dive under all but the most extreme braking. Very pleased so far.

I typically add some Blue Locktite to all of my fasteners as well, usually it has served me well, with no lost fasteners in 14k. I'm thinking maybe I didn't snug up that fastener.

Did you add spacers to your progressivs, if so how long? Thanks.

No, on the America you re-use the stock spacers. Progessive includes a space you could replace with or even cut easily (PVC). I did replace my fork fluid, stock weight.
