Does it matter if the tire is a tube type or tubeless? Any reason a tube can't go in a TL tire? I am going to replace the rear Battleax with another Battleax and most of the on-line shops just have the TL tire. I can get one shipped for $80. the cheapest I can get it at a local shop with mounting and balancing is about $125. A co-worker has a mounter and balancer so I will be doing it myself.

Thanks.

I don't believe there is any problem mounting a tubeless tire on a tube rim, however you can not mount a tube tire on a tubeless rim. You can run tubes in either rims that require a tube or rims that are meant to run without a tube. It is also advisable to change out your tubes with each tire change, tubes get old like the tires and wear too, although they're one of those things that are out of sight and out of mind.

As Tom said, there isn't a problem running tubeless tyres on the Bonneville's wheels with tubes in place. In fact, my 05 T100 came fitted with tubeless Metzelers from the factory. Apparently, the only proviso is that if the tyre is a radial you must use a tube suited to radial tyres. The rear on my bike is a radial whereas the front is a cross-ply. You might find this useful.

By the way, are you sure you want to use another Bridgestone BT45? I've not used them myself, but not many people seem to like them on the Bonneville. I could recommend the Metzelers (Lasertec) as a good match.

Mine came stock with the Battleax BT45 and I have 8400 miles on it so far and should be able to get about 9000 out of it. I haven't found any tire as inexpensive as it yet and I'm not interested in super sticky tires that are going to give low mileage.

I'm more concerned about the cupping on the front BT45 than the performance of the rear. I may try something else if the price isn't too bad. Now that I will be mounting my own it won't be such a tragedy if they wear out sooner. I know the Metlzers and Dunlops are about $25 or so more per tire than the Bridgestone.

I've also heard the Pirelli Sport Demons are very good.

It sure is strange the wildly varying mileage that different riders get out of the same tire on the Bonneville.

Thanks for the input.
