OK, here is a dumb question on the AI system Triumph uses.

Does the air injection system inject air into the cumbustion chamber or into the exhaust tract? Just wondering. The question came up yesterday, when I pulled the AI from my bike.

I believe the air is injected into the combustion chamber on the exhaut cycle.

AI-system feed air to exhaust pipes ( actually exhaust sucks air from airbox via AI-system), air contains oxygen, which helps to burn away unburnt fuel in extremely hot exhaust gases, removing AI-system does not affect bikes fuel / air mixture or engines performance, it only increases pollution, and cools engine ( cylinder head mainly) a bit, and it cools exhaust pipes a lot, they does not turn blue so quickly.

I understand exactly what you have said. My question is WHERE DOES IT INJECT THE AIR? In the combustion chamber or into the exhaust tract?

Hi Danbike,
as rexa already explained air is succed into the exhaust. That is just behind the exhaust valve. Think about it, do you think the plastic hose could withstand the explosions in the combution chamber. Take the AI off and you will see what I mean.

AI-pipes on the cylinder head are located to exhaust tract (not in combustion chamber!) about 2 -2 1/2 inch from exhaust valve toward headers,
air is injected to place where exhaust gases have maximum temperature = so near ex, valve as possible, to help "afterburning process" inside of headers, this "afterburning" turn headers blue and destroy chrome, but it clean exhaust gases too....

I took AI system away from my T100 immediately after purchasing bike in January 06,

Solid line( NEWSTAT1) shows AI still in dotted (NEWSTAT2) line shows AI taken out.

This 0,7 hp difference in your dyno-curves, comes for example from different friction between rear tyre / dyno roll
( warmer or cooler tire / roll..) or different engine temperature, humidity at measuring place, etc..

But removing AI cannot increase effect. Because it is completely independent system which works outside of the combustion chamber,

Ok it puts little bit more gases to exhaust sysytem and can in theory restrict more it, but this theory is not reasonable I think...
