blue...I believe the Lucas light fixture needs to grounded to the chassis and the black/red leads are for the running/brake lights...Not sure which is which. Hook them up, you've got a 50/50 shot at getting it right. Just reverse them if they're backwards...

BlueThrux, the blue wire is the brake light, red is tailight, black is ground.Run the bikes black wire to one of the mounting screws that mount the light to the fender, then touch the blue bike wire to the lights wires one at a time to see which is the brighter light. the other lucas wire will be the tailight.Make sure you try it with the key on and the front brake lever pulled back and taped to the grip so the brake light will work.

Hi blue-thrux. I installed a complete 68 BSA tail light on my 01 bonnie. A third (ground) wire must be added to the lucus unit and then attached to the gound in the thrux wiring harness. The rear fender on the new bonnie is not grounded. good luck. desperado

Blue,if the black bike wire is screwed to the light body[or mounting bolt] and the blue bike wire is hooked to the red[?] Lucas wire, the brake light should work when you pull the lever [key on]. The red bike wire should now be hooked to the black Lucas wire. The tailight should now be on also.It should stay on [key on] when the brake is released. If it doesn`t,try switching the red/black Lucas wires to the bikes blue/red wires.I can`t remember which Lucas wire was which element, but you only have 2 choices.

blue-thrux: Yes according to the Bonneville wiring diagram there is a separate fuse for the running lights. I'm not really sure about your Thruxton but the diagram says it's fuse # 10. I hope this helps you.

hi again from desperado. sounds like your just having a great time. I think I sauldered a wire right to the light bulb housing. My bike's in a unlit garage but I'll look at it tomorrow and tell you exactly what I did and what wires went where!
