Is there another option for brackets for the standard Bonneville? I am looking for brackets for throwover bags other than the ones from Triumph.

If you are talking about the support bars, I'm afraid the triumph ones are our only real option other than fabricating yourself. Several people had mentioned doing just that but I don't recall anyone actually doing it.

Actually, I can't find anybody advertizing the support brackets, OEM from Triumph, sold alone for a standard Bonneville. What am I missing? Even the Triumph USA site does not list them as available, nor do any of the dealers advertizing on the internet. I had a set on my Tbird but see nothing listed for a std bonnie. Am I wrong?

I would go with the easy brackets. You have to bolt your bags to them but their cheaper than the ugly Triumph brackets and they just slip right on/off. All you have left are a couple of studs left on your bike that you can hook bungees to if you want.

mecscc,

Jack Lilley has them, here's the link:

pannier rails

I'm thinking about something similar for the left side of my Scrambler, using one cloth 'throwover' type pannier, balanced by the pipes on the other side.

The problem I have found with fitting saddlebags, is that it is easy to fabricate a way to hold them on the bike, but it is diifcult to make something that looks good whilst stopping them getting pushed into the wheel.

Like many people I am not willing to pay 90 GBP for the Triumph brackets. I have seen Harley ones for $40, but I am not sure if I could adapt them.

Has anyone adapted Harley saddlebag brackets?

Johny, Thanks for the info. I have checked it out and have asked them to send me an estimate of shipping costs. The exchange rate looks like the rails cost over $175 US, not counting shipping, so the whole thing could come to about $200 US. That is a very high cost for a couple of pieces of chromed, bent, steel, so I will also look into having something fabricated. On a Bonnie Black I would prefer something far less obvious and much smaller since I use bags that I throw over the seat for trips and take off when I do local riding.

It would seem to me that someone over here could make a lot of money if they would fabricate and sell a lighter weight, black painted, smaller set of rails at something under $100. There is obviously a market for them.

One of the problems with going with a bike that is not a "big seller" in the US is finding accessories. Sort of an "unstated price" of owning a unique bike.

Thanks again,

Monte

Bryan,

I have checked with the mfgrs of Easy Brackets and the same problem comes up. They are available for the Speedmaster and the Bonnie America, but not for the Standard Bonnies, including the Black. And an email to them yielded the reply that they do not now intend to start making them for standard Bonnies.

you can get them from your local dealer for around $179.
That's how i got mine.

Personally, i like they way they look when the bags aren't on. And they install so easily and are made pretty nice. I saved money on the bags so I didn't mind spending an extra 50 bucks or whatever more than what I thought they were worth on the rails.

Thanks, Dennis

Wonder why, if they are available for standard Bonnies from dealers they aren't listed by Triumph in its accessories list? Or by several dealers that advertize on the internet?

Even so, I think they are pretty steep, and, being cheap, will try to come up with some alternative. Ultimately I may bite the bullet and fork out the $$$s if I can't.
