I was noticing when cruising along in 4th gear with the rpms up at about 5k, the tach needle is bouncing around between about 4800 and 5100 rpms. Throttle is steady and the bike seems to be running smooth, no jerkiness or anything that I can feel. But the needle is jumping around. And the needle seems fine the rest of the time, just around that 5k area.
Is this normal? :???:

Mine does it around 4,500 ... although since I synched the carbs, it doesn't seem to have as big a bounce.

Yes, it seems a regular thing to be on certain bikes-why? Who knows? My 05 T100 did it and I had the dealer replace the igniter box under warranty- it still does it! Just ride and enjoy . Seems to be a harmless happening.

Yeah, it's real steady though if you go through 5K so fast it can't bounce back and forth. :-D I sometimes use that as an excuse to cruise at 5500 rpm instead of 5000 rpm. The standard bonnie guys are probably saying to themselves--Why don't these guys get a life. :-D

Do you really cruise at 5K in 4th gear? Change up to fifth and increase you mileage!! :-D

When i'm in the twisties. I like to keep it in a lower gear so i can use engine braking before the turn, then have plenty of power to accelerate through and out.
