I read about Bonneville gas cap problems here before I bought mine, but have never had the problem. It has always been simply unscrew and put back with only once click. Well, last night I stopped to fill up and could NOT get the cap off. Here I am in the middle of a crowded station looking like a dweeb trying to get the ###$%%!!! thing off. Finally I pushed down with the palm of my hand and turned while pressing down. Presto! Came right off. Don't know if this caused it or not, but last time I fueled up I clicked it twice instead of once putting it back on. Anyway, the palm action works.

It will work for a little while. But don't be suprised if that stops working too.
The only permanent fix is probably to get a Monza flip-up cap.
My tank was repainted and it's back to being nice and easy. We'll see how long that lasts...

This happened once and I believe it was due to overtightening. Hasn't happened again. I will eventually get a different cap...til then I'm feeling lucky so no rush.

I had this problem as well, until I just left my glove on, and then it was easy. simply a matter of getting enough grip, it seemed to me.

Triumph's official fix, for those that have the problem, is to "sand down" the twist threads on the cap.

It's a mystery to me - never had the problem with the OEM cap. I replaced it with a locking cap anyway.

My experience with 2 Triumphs (mine and a buds) is that they break in as you go. Mine was impossible to get off at first but it now simply unscrews easily even after clicking it down. USE IT! Should loosen up nicely. I used a soft leather glove wrapped around the cap to get it off at first.

Another factor seems to be the temperature
I.e if its cold your bleedy hands wont function correctly, and if it's hot the bleedy thing seems unwilling to turn, no matter who tries.
The most embarrasing thing, I've had to ask a mate to see if he could get it off. Thankfully he failed too, and then for that unexplainable reason, it came off for me (My mate, of course, said he must have loosened it)
Mine has now 'broken in', touch wood!, and hasn't dicked me arond for ages.

To avcid public embarassment at the filling station I'd like to get one of those nice recessed gas caps from NewSpeedmaster.com, or almost anything else so I can ditch the current cap.

I know this was covered in an earlier class but how are these to install?

I had this problem with the Adventurer when i had it. the fuel cap was shallow and smooth chrome so i just could not grip it, my quick fix was to carry a large rubber band with me, put around cap, turn and off it comes.

yep, i've had that problem as well, but like a few others have said,, i just keep the glove on.. ps,, i would not do any sanding on a gas cap, i don't think carburators get along with sand particle.
