What's the difference between what catalogs call "marker lights" and "turn signals"? Could a marker light be wirted as a turn signal?

Marker lights aren`t normally DOT approved,I think, due to reflectivity inside the housing..
I like mine. :-D They are plenty bright even in the sun.

Yeah, Rodburner is right, they are mechanically/electrically the same thing, they just can't call them turn signals cause they are not DOT approved (not bright enough, too small, wrong color etc).

Except for a unit that is labeled a turn signal AND a marker light, that usually means the signals have a steady light when the headlight is on, and also flash when the signal is activated.

Wow....I just re-read that and noticed I said IN PRINT that Rodburner is right about something...Guess I need to go lay down or something...... :-D :-D :-D

Thanks for the responses. So a marker light wouldn't make a good turn signal, huh?

Wow, those marker lights look just like turn signals. Gives me more confidence, that's for sure.

Marker lights will make outstanding turn signals, a lot of the cooler looking signals are "marker lights". I'll deny it if pressed, but my signals are not technically legal...at all. But they are plenty bright, people seem to see them, and I like the look!

Manch- Thanks for asking the question. I ASSUMED that marker lights were just that, and no more. Opens up a huge range of possibilities.....just what I need!

Copper: Are you still riding that training trike?

(BTW, your bell will be sent tomorrow, we've got a pretty heavy duty snow storm today, so I am self imposed house bound. More time to work on my NCAA hoop picks!)
