OK I have removed the AI and installed TOR's and changed the mains to 115's supplied with teh TOR's. I am experiencing a little bit of popping in the off throttle position. Please tell me how to best adjust the mixture and balance the carbs. Thanks much.

Turn em out to about 3 turns then see how it runs. If that doesn't do try another 1/2 turn and again if needed. If it doesn't stop i'd add a shim to the needles. In fact, i'd say do that in any case. The needles is where i found all my benefits including ridding the popping. My bike literally NEVER pops at all now. Not even an occasional pop. My needles are as rich as i can go before i see negitive things like cutting out and such. I'm a firm believer in jetting till obvious negitive symtoms show up then backing off to the next leanest jetting. It's worked for me in getting the most power out of the bike and as i said completely ridding the popping. You can also try pulling the snorkel once you rejet and see what that does for you. It adds a healty boost for a lot of people including myself. But you'll need to jet even richer.

As for balancing, there are 2 things to consider. All i do is use a mercury balancer you can get for about $50. But others say to balance the screws forst by adjusting one till the idle goes up to the highest point. Then adjust the idle knob back down to normal idle speed. Then do the same with the other carb. Then redo the proceedure again till each screw is at the point where it makes the bike idle it's highest. Then after that use a balanced like i mentioned to get the throttles equal so they're both pulling the same amount.

pweitz,

I recommend you put your bike info in your "sign-on" or what ever it's called so it shows up under your name. This way we know what year and model you have and can answer your questions with more/less confusion. :-D

If your bike is a 2004 or later, you will need a "D" tool in order to adjust the pilot screw (also referred to as the "air/fuel mixture" screw).

Today I took the new D Tool and adjusted the carbs at 2 1/2 turns out and this has fixed the popping. Now I need to get a mercury stick and check carb balance.

By the way I have a '05 T100 Opal/Tang and love the bike.

I guess some of the 2004's didn't come with a D-jet. I have conventional jets.

Bryan,
Not the jets, they are all the same. The mixture screws on the bottom of each carb. Some of them are D-shaped, and some are slotted for a screw driver, but they have a cap over them that needs to be drilled out.

Sorry Mark; Kind of lost myself for a moment. I meant to say mixture screws. I was changing my idle jets today {45's} and got my wording mixed up. Sure am glad we weren't talking about muffler bearings here of I might have caused someone to damage their brake absorber.
