Hi,
I'm a new guy here, I have been lurking for awhile and enjoy the comments. I have learned alot.
I recently purchased a 2001 Bonneville, which I like very much.
Based on some recent posts, I have ordered the Bella Corsa super bars, and bar end mirrors.
I was wondering how do i remove the existing handlebar grips? The rest of the swap i can figure out, but the grips have me stumped.
Thanks
Pete

Pete,
A trick I use is to wedge a thin screwdriver between the rubber grip and the handlebars (and throttle sleeve if you're swapping out the grips too). Then I spray a little light oil such as WD40, or even water into the gap and use the screwdriver to work the fluid around. The grip(s) should slip-off with little effort.
When re-installing the grip(s), some folks like to spray a little hair spray or soapy water inside the grip which acts like a glue when dried.

Pete,
I am with Mike on the WD40 action, be sure to clean out the inside of the grip with some alcohol before ou try to reinstall it or you will have a hard time getting it to stick, I have used the hair spray method for years with very good results.
Good luck on the Superbars. I just got one and there is a slight bend on the right end that when I tighten the throttle control to the bar I have a fully functional cruise control. I have to slide the throttle control down so that the throttle tube hangs over the end of the bar about 1/2 before it will work properly.
I have since ordered a similar bar from scootworks, hoping it will work out. I have never seen anoyone else with this issue and am certain I just got a one in a million bad bar but thought I would mention it here so on the off chance you are lucky like me you will not have to take the left grip on and off and on and off, thats a pain.

Vertwerks, you don't have to extend the throttle past the end of the bar on the Superbars. In fact my throttle is inset about a 1/16".
If your throttle binds when tightening the throttle clamp it is because the bars are rolled too far forward.
Read This thread for the solution.
Hope this helps.

Ridge,
Tried the suggested handlebar position and still my throttle doesn't snap back like it aught to. I will admit it is better and with the vibration of the bike while it is running the throttle does shut down but it is still binding slightly.
I have the Sccotworks bars en-route so it will be interesting to see how they work out.
I scoped the Superbars out and there is definitely a bend in the bar past where the intentional bend is( in the one I received, doubt this is normal). I am certain this is the root of the problem. If the portion of the bar from the edge of the throttle control to the end of the bar were dead straight I am certain the "dampened" throttle response would not be happening. Bumma

I just replaced the stock bars on my America with a set of custom drag bars. My cables are now a little longer than they need to be and I also had problems with a sticking throttle. I think I must have ended up with too tight of a bend in the cable somewhere because all I had to do was re-route the cable and my sticking throttle issue was gone.
You might try it
