Can anyone explain how to adjust the rear suspension (shocks) on the Speedmaster?

The owner's manual makes it look like there's a screw adjustment on the shock but when I look in the hole, it's just... a hole! How do you the adjust the shocks for a heavier load?

By the way, even though I couldn't adjust the suspension, we (me and the bike) took the wife out for a little 2-up riding for a mile or two around the neighborhood today. She's just a little thing so it wasn't too bad for either of us, but we have some practicing to do.

On the t-100 and on most shocks you either get the correct shock adjustment tool or find something that fits tightly in the hole like the correct sized punch, unload the shock (a lift works best) and lift and rotate to pre-load up to the next ledge. I can do mine with a punch without the lift but removing the load makes it easier.

I use the correct size drill bit, that the smooth chuck end fits into the shock hole as a lever handle to rotate/click the shock for more or less pre-load. Tape the cutting end for your tender hand, if need be.

You can actually use the "tool kit" (allen wrench) that came with the bike. For the left side you may need to insert the short angle into the shock to adjust.

Meat,
If you "grab ahold" the big shock with tough hands, you can spin the whole thing, so you can get your tool in w/o using short side. Be rough, and tuff...

Hey, it worked!
I rummaged around the work bench and found some old junky socket tool with an end that fit perfectly in the hole.
I attached a vise-grip for leverage, and BING - instant shock adjustment!

I learn so much here, it ain't funny. Thanks guys!

I just got an old screwdriver and cut the end off so that it was 3" long out of the handle. I carry it with me in my tool pouch and can make adjustments to the rear shocks any time and anywhere in a minute or so. Very handy.

Cheers

The directions here are much better than the ones in the manual.

Robbo, that's the same inspiration I had after the fact. Great idea!
