Well I had a fun day today dodging the rain and snow showers on my new T100. Got to about 100 miles on my first tank of gas and decided it was time to fill up.
Like a complete pratt I couldnt figure out how to get the gas cap off. I tried for 15 minutes with icy hands to try to get it open and couldnt. Panic was starting to set in as at this point as I didnt have enough Gas to get to the nearest Triumph Dealer.
I rang up the dealer and he told me they can be a bit hard to get off. He explained a few secrets to me and said if I couldnt get the cap off he would ride up and rescue me (Good customer service eh!). I tried a few new techniques including pulling a face that looked like I was about to spit a kidney out of my backside and the***** came free.
In the Triumph owners manual it states that the cap has a ratchet mechanism to prevent overtightening and that you should turn it 1 click or whatever. Mine doesnt have any sort of ratched just a hard stop. Is it a faulty cap ?

Heres a few pictures of the new T100 I took on my travels today.

Great pictures. Best color choice too! I can't get enough of looking at these bikes. Oh ya I have to be careful with the gas cap also, But mine does have the clicker thing on it. I just put it on till it's snug. Have fun ,Be safe!. Bill White

G'day,

Congrats on the new bike. I just did 120 miles on mine today but the weather was a bit cooler at 24-32 degrees according to my thermometer. (It's the 80mph wind-chill that gets you.)

I found that the trick for the petrol cap is to leave my glove on, press the palm of my gloved hand firmly (but unneccesary force is not needed) down on the cap, and twist it. This works for me but your results may vary. The other thing I initially found arkward was the steering lock but that became easy when I found the knack.

Heated grips really help prevent icy hands.

My GOD, what striking colors (and a beautiful bike)!

I'm led to ask if it was just ideal conditions under which you took those images, or if they were taken with major brand name camera, a swoopy doopy evaluative metering system, and/or designer name single focal length lens!?!?!?

I wanted soooo badly to be out & about today, but I had already started a project in anticipation of snow flurries, gale force winds, and typhoon conditions in Northern California....... Guess I was wrong, as well as Accuweather and Radar Loop.

Hey Strontium,

Are those pics from the Altamont pass area? Looks like a nice ride without to much traffic if you have enough time that you can get off your bike and walk across the street to take a picture. Is it a secret or can you tell us what road that is?

You had more guts than me today. I had to drive out to Brentwood to get a crew working this morning and by the time I got back and thought I was ready to give it a try the rain started again. If it dries up tomorrow I may pay the 6 bucks to drive up MT. Diablo and check out the view and the snow before the cages full of kids get there to check out the snow.

The pictures were taken on patterson pass and near Altamont raceway. I used a Sony Pocket camera (DSC-P93). I left the SLR at home.

The roads were totally deserted but it did start snowing at the top of Patterson Pass and I got caught in a big rain shower on the way home. Love this bike

I too have suffered the indignity of looking like wimp of the year, as i struggled with my petrol cap on the forecourt!!!
EEEK. At least you had the comfort of being able to blame your numb hands, its 30 degrees celcius here (Hi 80s F) at the moment. Actually it never gets that "Continental" cold that you poor guys are talking about here at all. You only miss the odd day riding due to snow or really bad rain, even down here close to the Antarctic.
I too now only put the cap on to a comfortable fit. But I'm hoping as my bike ages that it'll wear in.
I would get that ratchet looked at tho, bro
Ride On
