Took my new BBlack for a spin around town today to work some Stabil into the carbs. Too cold to go far (27f)

Anyway, Can someone point me in the direction of any thread that discussed alternative mirrors for a stock hinckley Bonnie? I'm sure it is likely to have been talked to death on this forum but my search skills have struck out.

3/4 of my mirrors yield nice views of my elbows and arms. This is especially bad with a heavy winter jacket, but even with a light summer jacket I don't see how it would improve much. Longer, possibly bent, shafts would seem to get the mirrors out far enough so that I wouldn't spend alll the time admiring my elbows (not my best feature anyway.)

Advice?

Thanks,

Monte

BTW: the left shaft and the chromed nut at the end of it has some chipped chrome and a lot of rusting. I'd say the cosmoline didn't quite cover it. I'm sure the dealer will replace it, but that will only make me feel I didn't get the shaft -- it won't solve the smiling elbow problem :-D

Jack lilley has mirror extensions. look at the online catalogue under bonneville then under frame accessories.

http://www.jacklilley.com

Other folks here have said that the yamaha cruiser mirrors fit but I have never tried them.

I had the same problem with the aftermarket ones i installed. Added a spacer about an inch long to them to raise them up and that did the trick. Even tho they didn't stick OUT further, bringing them up helps because if you look at your arms as you're holding on to the bars, the higher up on your arms the further inwards they are because the grips are wider than your shoulders. That one inch made a world of difference for me. I don't know how you could achieve this with those perticular mirrors but if you can it'll help. Another option some use is to get bar end mirrors if you don't mind the look.

I just received a set of mirror extensions for my Thruxton from Jack Lilley. Work great and good workmanship. I thought $50 to be a little expensive, but how do you put a price cap on your bike...

I have a set of mirrors from a Yamaha Vstar 650 on mine, they thread right ontothe end of the stock stalks. My understanding is that all the Star series mirrors wil fit, and can be had fairly cheap on Ebay.......They are oval or rectangular, so they have a better field of view than the round Triumph ones.

Bar ends are another option, providing your bars can accomodate them

Mare & RB: Well, I DID stare at it in the garage for a while, but then I realized that the gas the dealer put in was not stabilized, so I took a can and put Stabil in it and went and filled it, and brought it home, and put it in, and THEN I realized it wasn't in the carbs, and the streets were dry, even if it was below freezing, and well, what else COULD I do but ride it for 20 minutesllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll :-D :-D :-D

Thanks for the advice on the mirrors everybody. I looked at the Lilly extenders but I'm so cheap I don't think I can force myself to spring for them (yet).

Anybody know if they are standard threaded 10mm stems on it, and if universal mirrors will fit? Universal mirrors fit most bikes.

I doubt if I would like bar-end mirrors, but appreciate knowing about that option.

Thanks much for the advice, folks.

Monte
