After installing the bellmouth, I'm wondering if there is much restriction from the side cover. There isn't much clearance between the opening of the bellmouth and the inside of the side cover.

Any thoughts?

I don't think you would gain a noticeable difference even if you were to remove the side cover. My first thought when I read your post was " You could try making a louvered side cover out of aluminum". It was just a thought. :-D

I think there's plenty of air flow under the cover, even if you put the rain strip at the rear of it. I'm pleased with mine. Does it really add more performance? I don't know. It's a nice piece of kit though. Even though it's covered up, it was almost a cosmetic purchase for me. That sounds almost stoopid.

That's an easy enough way to find out--will try it.

I wonder if you could seal the back and sides and cut the front open a bit creating a side scoop. Or have one made out of aluminum. I think that would be more efficient at creating some airflow or ram induction as the marketing experts during the muscle car era used to say. I think its time to go out to the shop, take off the sidecover and ponder this side scoop idea.

PC,Brent has fiberglass replacements for 125-130 bucks a pair and Mototwin has gloss black ones made of the same fiberous resin they use in their fenders.Don`t remember the price, but they are sold as singles.
