Has anyone's stock seat screws vibrated out?

Today I noticed my seat was loose so I looked and found that one was missing and another was loose. They have never been loose before and I always tighten them down pretty hard.

Now I have to go to a hardware store and find a replacement screw.

My helmet has been stolen from my bike a few weeks ago so I'm a bit paranoid. Can you imagine your SEAT being stolen? That thing is so expensive.

I can't think of any ways to secure a seat other than to lock-tight the screws, but that would be a major pain being that my tank bag harness is secured to brackets under the seat. There really is no way that I can think of to secure the seat.

Not sure what kind of screws you have on the bonnie. But what you need are security screws that take a torx bit. These are like those star screws but have a pin in the middle of the socket so that a regular star bit won't go in. You can get a torx bit that has a hole in the middle of the bit to accomodate the pin in the screw. this doesn't mean a thief can't go and buy a torx bit, but most people won't have one and many don't even know about them. look at your tank's emblem. My speedy has those screws securing them to the tank and the bonnie probably uses them too. You'll see what i'm talking about. You may have a hard time finding a security screw like that of the right size, but unless they are odd in some way you should be able to find them.

I have lost about 4 bolts out of the seat. I gave up buying genuine bolts. You need to get some star washers and put under them.
That is one thing that annoys me about my bike The hassle to get under the seat. My Tiger has a catch that you pull and the seat hinges up. Enough room for a pair of plastic pants, why couldn't Triumph do something better?

If it was really a theft attempt this won't help but i use those thumbsrews from newbonneville.com. Makes it much easier to access under the seat because they stick out farther and you don't need any tools.

Some thread locker would keep them from vibrating out. My were loose from the dealer so I put the thread locker on at that time. I will go thru the rest of the bike while the weather is bad and check all bolts, axles, etc. I would rather take the time now than later and it also gives me piece of mind.

You could also buy any security head screw ( make sure to use similar materials, I believe that screw is a high strength steel, probably grade 5 or 8 steel) that is the size you want and weld it to your stock screw. you could either cut off the old and weld on the new or if you want to extend the bolt a little cut the head off the security screw leaving some length of shaft, drill the head of the stock seat bolt the diameter of the shaft of the new bolt plus a 1/16 of an inch or a little more to make it easier to fill when welding and weld the two together. Just make sure your alignment is correct and tack it in at least 3 places before finishing up the weld, after each tack weld check alignment. You could also do the drilling and prep yourself and take it to a welder if you don't weld ( I make my son weld it for me, he can actually still see what he is doing on small parts).

I would replace with Stainless SHCS with nylock outserts. They will not vibrate loose.
