I was just out in the garage running my engine looking at the rain and softly cursing....

Anyway, I ran the engine up, and noticed on the tach it was upwards of 8,000 RPMs.....No rev limiter...Does it only kick in in gear, or is mine not working?

I would imagine when not under load the inertia would allow it to spin up higher which under load wouldn't happen.

jojje1963 should have the answer to that since he modifies them. Maybe he'll chime in.

Heres another way to explain it, same as i said before but i think clearer. If you quickly blip the throtte very fast, you'll nothice the engine will continue to rev higher for a split second even once the throttle is closed due to the flywheel effect. Yet as it's going higher it is NOT gaining rpm's due to mixture being ignited. It's just inertia just as if you had a bicycle on a stand and turn the pedals by had and then let go and it keeps spinning even gaining a bit after you let go. Under load the tire is hooked to the pavment so it cannot do that.

If you blip the throttle the tachometer is just as slow to stop as it is to get going ;-)
Go out again and keep the throttle wide open and report back what happened. My guess is that it will rev to 7400 and then after a minute or so the engine will explode from over heating.
Once about every 2 months I hear about someone who think they have a broken revlimiter, but that isn't possible. Either it was set to high at the factory (never seen that) or it is your tach that is the problem.

Thanks......I was mostly curious, never hit the limiter anyway. I figured its probably not broken, though.

Cap'nDon......

My 60 day money back has not yet run out on the rev limiter I bought off ebay two weeks ago. So it may be too early to tell if it's working.
But I sure as hell ain't having the problems others have claimed with theirs..... maybe mine works!

Anyway, I've ridden under all sorts of conditions for a thousand miles since putting it on the bike 11 days ago. The ONLY problem I can report so far, is that after washing my bike with one hell of a lot of water, rinsing it repeatedly, it didn't start cooperatively....... like EVERY other bike I've tried to start when it's been dunked in gallons of water. I walked away from the bike, came back five minutes later, and she fired up (after coughing a bit).

And today's 250 mile ride to the coast was phrick'n awesome! I still don't quite understand why all my bikes feel like they've been granted an additional 20 horsepower on the return rides of my two-hundred mile trips. My fattass was slipping back on the bench seat while I was winding her out to 8,000 rpm, shifting and surfing over the irregularities in the road!!!! This little 790cc is starting to come into it's own as I rapidly advance onto the 9,000 mile mark!

So...... 11 days and a thousand miles does not yet make for a "cheap Chinese box" igniter, proved reliable. But I've already gotten my money's worth out of it if it breaks tomorrow!
