New Battery

Want to order a new battery for my Carbed 08 T100 and was wondering if I would have any trouble fitting the yxt 14-bs, with its slight difference in hight, in place of the yxt 12-bs. Has anyone done this? just woried about the seat rubbing it?

You may be the first. Suggest taping what ever scrap material you have to simulate the new height and let us know the results.

Standard battery is a YTX12-BS.

The YTX14-BS is 15mm (0.6") taller, you might be able to fit it if there's enough seat/battery clearance.

DBmike's suggestion is good. Find a slab of polystyrene or something 15mm thick and check clearance. Also check to see that the cables will reach the terminals.

Or get a Shorai, save 10lbs, get extra cranking power, know that it fits (I'm your proof) and call it a day!

I am running 2 sizes larger (I have a hi-comp engine) and it still weighs 9 lbs less with plenty of space...

The price isn't for the faint of heart tho.

I'm confused here, what does a lighter battery have to do with cranking power?

There's no way my ytx12-bs even weights 9 lbs. Maybe 5 or 6

The two have nothing to do with each other. But why not remove weight whenever possible? I was eluding to the fact he could go up 2 battery sizes, increase the cranking power AND still remove some weight from the bike. Plus he would know that they fit as I have done it.

The ytx12-bs that I took out of my Thrux weighed 10lbs! The new Shorai with higher reserve and CCA weighs 2.31!

Thanks Guys, I put a piece 3/4 " lumber beneath the stock ytx 12-bs battery and it was just a wee bit tight but was still able to refit the seat. But again that is 0.75" as oposed to 0.6" and had plenty of reach in the cables. I believe if I mount the cables to the face of the posts as opposed to the top like they are now I will have the clearence I need. Are 20 more cca really worth it. The cost difference is like 2-bucks, I think on amazon

Its a good way to get yourself stranded as the rubbing and pressure on the terminals will eventually break them on the inside of the battery.

When you're testing to see if the seat still fits, make sure you sit on it, and take into account flex when riding over bumps....
