I've used one in my car many times while modifying and they are very accurate if you take the time to calibrate correctly.

You'll need a way to pick up the tacko reading as RPM is used in calculations. On a car RPM is picked up from the lighter socket as there is a pulse there. So unless they make one for a bike now, you'd have to sort that out.
