For the first time in my life I have decided to take a new vehicle back to the dealer for service. I have always done all of my work except hauling stuff back and forth to a machine shop etc.

How much should I expect to pay for the first service and any other info on any of your experiences or a heads up on things to watch out for could be helpful. One of the reasons I am doing this is because my first impression was that I liked the dealership. I may also be getting old and lazy.

It varies a lot from dealer to dealer. Some have paid in the $300 range and some 1/2 that. personally i think you might wanna consider the do it yourself route, or at least see what they charge. You can change the oil with the good stuff for around $35-40, and aside from that all the do is check fluid levels and check bolts for tightness and that kind of stuff. IMO it's a huge rip-off unless your dealer happens to be one of the real low ball ones. i would do it unless it were $100 tops. but i think you can be pretty sure it'll be a lot more. Look at the maintenance schedule and you'll see they don't do anything more than i said. And after 500 miles the bike isn't going to change any so the checks are really close to if not un-necassary IMO. Personally i just changed the oil myself and if i ever do take it in it'll be for the valve check service at i think 12k miles.

I actually think it's a good idea to take it in for the first servicing regardless of cost. More so if you've done any modifications.

I felt with a brand new bike it was important to me to have it 'on record' that the bike was in fine shape and that it was indeed serviced by a certified Triumph shop for the initial servicing.

My thinking is that if there is something really wrong with the bike that it will probably reveal itself before the second servicing. I didn't want any hassles resulting from not being able to show that it was serviced to manufacturer's specs. Not that Triumph would necessarily do that, I'm just paranoid like that.

I also used it as an opportunity to get the bike dyno'd. You may want to do this even if you haven't done any mods yet. That way you'll have a clean baseline to compare to later on.

My thinking is do it myself, and use the money I saved to make my next bike payment. Nathan

I did my own first service, just keep proof that you used proper oil & filter.

I'm with Ridge on this one. Everyone likes to save money of course, but I have always taken new vehicles back for the first service and sometimes a second service. How fair the dealer is generally determines if you go back a second time.
I haven't even taken delivery of my T100 yet, but I intend to take it back for the first service.
It's really up to the individual to make that decision for himself.
