I know this subject has been beat to death but ...here goes.
I've got an '05 BW Bonneville T100 with a centerstand(that cost a
pretty penny) and am looking to get some new mufflers.
I need them to be 100% compatible with the centerstand.
Leaning toward TORs,Norman Hyde peashooters, or Bella Corse/
Newbonnieville Sprint pipes.
I don't need Harley loud, just want it to sound like a motorcycle. I've already removed the rear baffles, that helped the sound but just made me want more!
The dealership will be doing the rejetting.
On a scale from 1 to 10 how loud are the TORs. I like the idea of
staying with Triumph parts but am not ruling anything out.
Thanks

I just went through the process of first replacing the stock mufflers with TORs. Next, I mounted the centerstand yesterday. With the rubber stop and plastic insert in place in the rearmost hole of the left TOR bracket, the stand works fine. It rests on the rubber bumper, and leaves perhaps 3/8 to a half inch clearance between centerstand and muffler.
I cannot speak for the compatibility of the centerstand with aftermarket mufflers.
Re sound - I'm no expert on this, but on a scale of 1 to 10, if:
- Straight pipes were a 10
- Stock T100 mufflers were a 1
- I'd rate the TORs between a 2 and 3, maybe a 3 and 4.
This is really subjective. For my purposes, the TORs are fine. They produce a nice tone you can hear over the mechanical engine noises when cruising on partial throttle, and provide a considerably louder British twin exhaust note when you roll it on and put the power to it. Reminds me of how the bikes sounded from the factory when I began riding my BSA in the mid 60's, before EPA, etc.
Maybe find a riding buddy running TORs that'll let you swap bikes for a few miles, and see what you think.

Thanks ohiorider. I noticed you have a w650, I used to own one also great bike. How does the TORs exhaust note compare to the w650.
Thanks

Very well put. The TORs are just slightly louder than the stock pipes and the stock pipes are terrible, IMO. WAY too quite and I will assume too restrictive.
Since you're prepared to spend some $ on pipes I'd strongly suggest the Hydes. They come with removable baffles (thus giving you a few options) and are compatible w/the center stand on my 05 T100. They're fairly quite until 3/4 throttle then that sound real good.

I have the TOR's (The shorter ones).
A couple of points:
You might be able to find used TOR's in the classifieds or on E-Bay. I got mine here for $225.00
Recently I saw (for the first time ever) some used Toga's for a good price here. I lot of people like them a lot.
I've read on here that the TOR's get louder over time......that may be true. I "think" mine have gotten louder, but I may be wrong.
Also, this is just a guess, but the shorter TOR's could be louder then the "longer" TOR's. This isn't the BA/SM shorty TOR's, this comes from Thunderbird TOR's being sold as Bonnie TOR's early on....I think.
Basically, I have older, shorter TOR's, and I really like the sound.

The TORs put out more sound than the stock W650 pipes. Gotta remember, the W somehow had to pass Fed noise standards (how'd it ever do that?). Hard to describe, but the TORs make a much more pleasant sound than the stock W pipes. Re the W as a good bike ..... I'm banking on my experience with the T100 being as good as with the Kawasaki. What a tough little bike! My W now has 47K miles showing, runs as good today as when new. In that time, I replaced the right side pipe, because it cracked at the weld (not a slip-on, unfortunately). Kaw extended warranty covered it. With fly screen, the low bar kit, corbin solo saddle, five star mounts and givi E21 bags, it is a great weekender as well as a go to the store bike. (of course I also replaced several sets of tires and am on the 3rd chain and sprockets).
Regards - Bob

Good point! I didn't realize there were short and long TORs. However, I did notice that the TORs I purchased used were shorter than the stock pipes on my 2003 T100.

gmbigsby,
Here's my take on mufflers for the Bonneville/T100. If you just want your bike to sound more like a motorcycle and not overly loud then the Tors may be your best choice. I only know of one set of Tors for the Bonneville or T100 and they are about 2" shorter than the stock mufflers and look identical.
On the other hand, if you want potentially louder mufflers then the Norman Hyde Togas would be a good choice. I have the Togas with J.C. Whitney baffles sleeved with 1.5" O.D. tubing installed in the tailpipes to tone them down and eliminate a resonance in my helmet that was annoying to me. They now sound fantastic in my opinion and look great also, like they came on the bike from the factory.
They come with baffles but they don't do very much and the Whitney baffles are only $4.00 ea. Most people run the Togas without baffles and have no complaints, so you have options with the Togas. The Togas work fine with my center stand by the way and would be a 6 or 7(without baffles) on a scale of 1 to 10 in the loudness category.

Another vote for the Hydes. Great sound, but not too loud. I have not installed the removable baffles. They are (without the baffles) somewhat louder than the TORs, but not viciously so. The Hydes are not as loud as D&Ds. Excellent construction and classic good looks.

Staintunes are compatable with centre stand are crafted from stainless steel. From 15' awy you wouldn't pick them as non genuine Triumph
The sound is around 5 with the mutes in and 8-9 without. You can cruise around town in a higher gear and hardly make a noise or open the tap and turn it on. I run mine with the mutes in as it was tuned with them in and the couple of times I have taken them out it doesn't seem as punchy. I guess it needs a little back pressure.
Heaps of people compliment me on the note.
Check em out.
