FLAT is literally FLAT. Just like what a chalkboard looks like. I refer to it as looking "dead" or "raw" .... its the type of look that all the rat rodder car guys use. You cannot wetsand FLAT clearcoat. FLAT clearcoat absolutely reflects ZERO light. Has ZERO shine or sheen to it ever
MATTE actually appears like a 'semi-gloss'. The words Semi-gloss and matte are sometimes used interchangably. Usually this is a mixture of clear coat that has a flattening agent in it but still has some semi-gloss properties as well. Ever use house paint that says "matte" ... same sh*t. This can be buffed. MATTE has a semi-gloss look to it and can produce a sheen in the light. Nothing that will POP, but has a sheen for sure.
