Fueled up the Bonnie yesterday and the trip meter knob simply fell off in my hand - fractured through. The break showed rust so must have occurred over time. Spoke to the local dealer who advised they had not heard of this happening before. They also reckoned the speedo is a sealed unit so this part cannot be replaced. A new speedo is nearly $500 Aussie pesos.
Anyone heard of this before ? Know of any good aftermarket guages (I'm thinking of pissing off the "dash", putting the idiot lights in the headlight shell and putting on seperate guages like the 70's & earlier Bonnies).
Any thoughts anyone ?

If you could stand going tech, there is a cool unit called the Veypor that does speed, rpm, acceleration, HP (or kW for you), and has a computer interface so you can geek out.

I've resisted the temptation so far, but I would like to have one. Maybe I should bust my speedo too, then I'd have to do something.

Anyway, you can get more info about the Veypor and buy it from these folks:

Cheers Doc

I was looking for something a little more traditional......although that sure would clean up the front end !

Does it really do all it claims to do ?

Can't say I know from experience, but it seems to be well-regarded. I downloaded the software to play with.

May buy one next time I have $300 to drop and a gadget jones.

But yes, I understand the desire to remain traditional in look and feel. I s'pose one could install the Veypor in a discreet location and go for almost a "no instruments" look. Maybe behind the bugscreen on a Thruxton on a flip-down mount for near-invisibility when you don't wanna look at it...

A Veypor VR2 will be installed on my '01 Bonnie in a few weeks. I'm anxious to report my results, those related to the bike upgrades and those of this gadget. (If it works as advertised I won't call it a gadget anymore, but a "miracle.")

Check out these videos of the Veypor, particularly the last three. Set the mode, make the run, read the results...cool!
