Help needed after Airbox Removal

Hi All

Had the Airbox removed and AI done a few days ago by my local dealer who has done a few of these. My bike is a 2009 Bonny T100 EFI with twin Staintune pipes.

On taking it home, I found the difference noticeable immediately, however when approaching slow corners or in a roundabout in first gear, if I'm feathering the clutch / throttle the bike starts to stutter and actually stalled for a millisecond a few times which was quite disconcerting as I was leaned over at the time.

I took it back and they didn't feel anything was wrong but tried a different map. The same problem exists and now the bike backfires a lot and if after a high rev in 3rd or 4th it backfires and then rocks backwards and forwards on the way down.

When it is idling, it sounds OK however every 4 - 5 seconds it seems to drop a rev if that makes sense. There is also a loud 'tock' sound from around the cam covers too in the same time pattern.

Before I take it back to the shop (who are very helpful BTW) I wondered if there is anything I should advise them to consider?

The tock noise is most likely the pump for the AI. they dont remove the pump. and now that the hoses have been disconnected, you will hear the noise from it. have you checked your Idle speed? I had similar problems after my dealer did the same surgery on my bike. I brought up the idle just a teeny bit and problem solved.

The "tock" will be the AI solenoid. I ditched all the rest of the system on my bike, and need to get round to bluffing the electronics with a resistor or getting a windoze laptop!

If the shop only had the Factory's alternative tune maps available to them they'll be far too lean with airbox removal and aftermarket pipes. The bike will never run right or develop the increased performance that airbox removal promises.

Factory maps don't contemplate airbox removal at all, as they certainly don't approve of that, they just do alternative exhaust systems like Arrows or similar.

I would strongly advise to get it re-mapped with one of TTP's maps:

Or do it yourself using software like TuneECU and one of TTP's downloadable maps like these with the further advantage of being able to remove the solenoid using that same software and disabling the AI for good, doing away with the ticking noise:

It is incredibly easy to use TuneECU and do it yourself. I did it so I know anyone can.
