Guys,

I recently purchased a new old stock (23 miles, first registered for sale with Truimph in 9/12) 09 Bonneville SE. As most before me, I have been desperate to upgrade the exhaust, but my need for immediate gratification, and my hesitation to spend 500+ at the dealer when other options are available had me in a perpetual state of limbo. The bike was completely stock in every way, except for what I did today.

I bought 4 15" tapered chrome shortys a few months ago at my local Iron Pony on clearance for a Honda project. They appear to have some baffling in them, but there does not appear to be any way to make adjustments or add packing material. They are labelled "Pro Sport Part No 480-0658" I am fairly certain that they are identical to these :

These guys had been sitting in my garage on the shelf staring me in the face for months. Well, I broke down today and installed two of these on the Bonneville. I think that they sound incredible. That being said, they are pretty loud. I did not run the bike with open pipes before the install for comparison, but they are nowhere near the open pipe volume of other bikes I have heard so I am guessing most would find it acceptable. I met up with someone last month with a TBS with D&D 3-3 pipes and the D&D was significantly louder then these if that comparison helps. The D&D was almost nauseating it was so loud - these are nowhere close.

Still trying to decide on keeping these, or going with TORS or something else. Right now, they are just mounted to the pipes and not the frame for testing in the garage. It appears that the mounting brackets will need to be bent to make them fit, and I have to sort the kickstand stop issue as well. I am also aware I will need a tune from the dealer.

How are the other solutions (other than the TORS which i imagine address it like the standard mufflers) addressing the kickstand?

I paid about $20 each for these things, so really I am only about $40.00 in to this upgrade. Pretty tempting to keep them if I can sort the mounting and kickstand.

Skip the Tors. they will leave you still wanting pipes..

I don't think you would be happy with the Tors if you dig the sound of these.
I am in a similar situation only I am trying to decide whether to go with the D&D slip ons or the EMGO reverse cones from BellaCorse.
Can anyone out there justify why one should pay 500-600 over 150 bucks for the EMGO's. From what I have read the quality of the EMGOs are really not bad, so is there something else I am missing that makes other pipes warrant such a hefty price?

I purchased EMGO's from BC ( not sure if the same model as you describe), and 3 yrs later they still perform well and sound and look fabulous. If, in another 3 yrs, they no longer do so, I'll just get another set.

Nice sound there Jason. It really doesn't sound too different from straight headers. I just did a bafflectomy and posted a video with the sound of just the headers.

Yours sounds more "refined" A bit more of a discernable thump to it.

You may wish to try out a set of these muffler adapters. These not only upsweep your shorties, but give you the option to angle them out to clear the frame. They also give you the option to install the gorgeous EMGO Dunstall mufflers (which are repackable and only $145/pair from JC Whitney). The adapters are a deal at $30.

whatever you like, bought preds nice but $$$ lots of options out there for less $$$, be aware you may need a download for the mufflers, efi is already epa lean better exhaust makes it more so, overly lean can cause engine damage, dealer can do a simple download, cost me only $30

The EMGOS that I have sweep up further than the stock exhaust, so there is no contact issue.

I have the longer dunstall mufflers - they are great but a bit long. Done 3000 miles and the chrome is good and performance excellent. I would go for the shorter 17" units and add some packing. I would love to see a dyno comparison with the Arrows or Predators and if there is more than a marginal difference I would be surprised. On the track that 1/2bhp may be crucial but on the road? I am going to buy a pair of the shorter ones next week.
