The Scrambler and Bonnie both produce the same torque, it's just the Scrambler hits the peak lower down the range. As to differences in hp, you can't tell there is any.

I've owned both. Whatever the numbers say the real world test reveals little in the way of 'power' differences to worry about. I took the Scrambler on several Euro tours including one memorable 770 mile trip back in one day from southern Germany to the Uk. I have a T100 now and prefer the way the power is delivered (feels smoother) but both are great bikes for general fun riding.

I always felt my Scrambler was torquier than my Bonneville, but I think you guys are right. I read somewhere that the 270 firing order gives a little engine pause on the low end that makes it feel like it has more grunt. Does that sound right?

Bonnie or Scrambler are both weak performers out of the box, stock. They need to be opened up with air box removal and higher flowing silencers. It makes a world of difference. Test riding a stock Bonneville has probably kept many riders from buying one.

You are absolutely correct, ruger. But that keeps out the riff-raff If the OP does the simple mods you suggest he will enjoy the difference they make.

I have an '09 Bonnie SE with TORS and no AI. It runs strong and is a great bike. I bought it new and have 12K miles on it.

I just bought an '09 Scrambler with the Arrow 2/1 and no AI. It runs strong and is a great bike.

I thought I would like one over the other because of the supposed power difference but I love them both and don't find the Scrambler wanting for more power. It pulls strong and can cruise comfortably at 80 mph. Whereas the Bonnie can cruise comfortably at 90+. But who stays at those speeds very long.

Each has its own personality. The Bonnie says "take me to the canyons and drag the pegs". The Scram says "take me anywhere and take your time to enjoy the scenery".

So I'm keeping both of them. If I had to choose between them and only keep one it might be the Scram for its versatility and coolness.
But it would be a tough decision either way.

Peter Egan bought a Bonnie and then added a Scram and then sold the Bonnie and now has bought another Bonnie. So I'm not the only crazy guy out there who needs both.

Bottom line, the Scram is not slow by any means and is a ton of fun.
It's still a personal choice but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Scram. That's why there is a limited used market for them. People buy them and keep them.

Also worth considering the exhaust note of the 270 degree vs. 360 degree crank. Love the sound of the Scrambler, but the 360 crank on the T100/Bonneville is the classic British twin sound (if that's important to you).

The stock Scrambler, which has a 270 degree engine order, has a bit more torque, but is not meant to out-run a stock Bonneville or Thruxton. And that is not why anyone should buy a Scrambler just to be a race bike. It is not. But it will easily go 100 mph and break your neck, if you're not careful, so I think that makes it about on par with the T100. Add the factory TORs racing exhaust and you'll notice some speed increase.

0 to 65 in third gear on the Scrambler seems to come quickly for me. And with a 75 mph speed limit in the U.S. I don't understand what more one needs..... (OK, I know that doesn't stop one from "wanting" more!!)
