dart flyscreen

So i got one in the mail today and tried to fit it. The holes in the mounting brackets are too small for the headlight bolts. I tried forcing it, but was about to damage the threads so I stopped...it's a thread size or two too small. Anyone else have the same issue?

the mrs and I both have dart screens, mine went straight on the speedy , but the one for the bonnie was more involved . I had to clean out the headlight holes and the threads to fit the screen to the bracket , A little keen at the coaters I feel. but it fits and looks just right. so take your time , remove excess coating before fitting and enjoy.

Hi there,
this is due to the very slight paint layer inside the holes. Just remove a slight part of it by using a round file and there you go. I faced the same "problem" with mine two weeks ago.

I think you have now experienced the difference between before and after the DART

They may be small but they do work.

haha. i'm 6'3 with a long torso so i wasn't expecting much. when i first put it on i was very unimpressed, but i did a 100+ ride the other day (brrrr!) and was able to ride over 70 without too much wind blast, normally over 65 gets old very quickly. Next time i'm out on a longer ride, i'll take it off halfway and see what the difference feels like.

I just ordered one for my Scrammy. Should be here next week some time. Sorry for the dumb question but I don't quite get what you mean when you guys say use a file or drillbit on the threads; how exactly do you do that without stripping them?

I presume these fellas mean the holes in the two brackets have been slightly over coated, hence the bolt holes are reduced in diameter. Scraping some of the paint out of the holes will get rid of the excess paint. There is no need to tamper with the actual threads for the screen mounting, just remove sufficient paint to allow the 4 screen Allen bolts passage into the threads. The bolts will cut themselves through the paint in the normal manner. The headlight mount holes can easily be sanded or carefully scraped clear of paint if needed.
