Cleaned it up and changed the oil today (Mobil V-Twin 20w50 Synthetic). Bought the ignition switch and key assembly on eBay today. I'm just about certain that the ignition switch assembly will replace my 3 high tech Pepboys switches!! lol. Still plenty of work to do, but I am feeling a lot better about the bike!!

You can take off the SAI (secondary air injection) hoses and hardware to run your pipes a bit cooler and have some extra power - plenty of posts on the forum showing how to do it.

Looks like you're off to a great start, my friend!

I think you're gonna really like riding a Triumph!

My bass player has a 1600cc Victory; and he can't come close to keeping up with my '08 T100 even in the straights, much less through the curves.

Take care,

Rick

Funny you mention the Victory!! I am thinking the Bonneville is a little quicker than the Hammer, but I think it would likely be a good race to about 100mph, with the Bonnie pulling further ahead the faster we go!! I had my oldest son drive the Bonneville yesterday before I had done any work, and he quickly proclaimed that the Bonneville was the best and fastest bike in the garage!! (see sig).

He also said that I should get rid of the Hammer and keep the Bonnie!! I always wanted a Bonneville anyway, so who knows? Maybe sell the Hammer and get an FJR or Concours like I have threatened to do anyway this spring?!!?!?

I gave $1900 for it. I really didn't think that was too bad. The bike was on the Kansas City Craigslist.

It took weeks to actually get to see the bike the for the 1st time. I bet I sent 10 emails trying to get into see it. He would never give me his phone number or call me on mine. Even after seeing him and the bike and meeting in a grocery store parking lot he wouldn't just let me come to his apartment to pay him and get the title. I had really given up on ever getting to see it, let alone buy it. And then he finally shot me a text and wanted to meet 30 minutes later!! I live about 35 minutes from him, but we worked out the time.

He actually showed up in the grocery store parking lot on the bike and I was thrilled. After we talked for a few minutes, I requested to drive the bike which he agreed to. I had already decided I would give the $2500 he was asking if had to at that point if it just rode ok!! Well I hit the switch and I get nothing but a click...damn!! It sounded like a loose battery cable. So he lifts up the un-screwed down seat to reveal the battery, and on one of the cables the bolt that is supposed to hold the cable is missing and in it's place there is a piece of bailing wire holding the cable on. And not even twisted good and tight where it might actually work, just like the rest of his mods...half-assed!! When me holding the cable tightly against the battery terminal still doesn't get the bike started, we call it a night.

He says he'll get the battery fully charged and the battery cable hooked up properly. So the next day we meet at 12 noon. The fix is good and my test drive is fine. I verified that the title was clean and clear, no liens, and not salvage or anything. I offer $1800 (should have said $1500!), he counters with $2000 and of course we end up at $1900.
