Stains under the carb...

Recently purchased a "down and out" 2002 Bonnie. Many hours of detailing has made a pretty good looking bike. One area I can't seem to clean up.

At some point, the left hand carb puked fuel, probably for a long time. This has stained the silver paint on the top of the crankcase. I've tried carb cleaner, lacquer thinner, cleaner/wax, etc.

I'd prefer not to have to repaint, just to back it back to silver.

TIA

Just a couple of days ago that silver paint finish was discussed and, according to Pieman in the post below, it stains very easily and it's virtually impossible to clean:

I can confirm what Mike (Pieman) said. I have some brown staining from petrol I carelessly allowed to drip on to the top of my crankcase not realising I would be left with seemingly indelible staining. Nothing I've tried so far has made any impression on it.

Thanks! Guess if it bothers me enough I'll repaint.
