EZ pass in the northeast
Anyone have any experience with using EZ Pass in the northeast region? There are various bike mounting solutions, but it's pretty hard to not have it be a big ugly thing stuck on the front of your bike somewhere. I've read in other forums that you can just carry it in your pocket or a bag and that even if the sensor doesn't pick it up, they match your plates from the camera before issuing you a ticket so as long as you're registered you almost don't even need to have the actual device. Is that true?

EZ Pass
I have used mine in a jacket pocket. It will trigger the hi-speed lane sensors, but not the toll-booth sensors. I have to pull it out or if there is no gate go on through. Never gotten a ticket for going on through without a green light.

Tried the pocket in the toll booth, didn't work too well, eventually rigged it to the front near the headlamp but took it off when I left the bike for any extended time.

If fl you can assign plate numbers to you sunpass, if you can do the same up there I don't even bother with it, they check the plate number and your good to go

I use the jjCyclepass holder, mounted it on the clutch side of the handlebar, it was kind of a tight squeeze but it fit. Never really bothered me much, but it can make an annoying rattling noise at certain rpms if the screws aren't tight (or the cover clip is loose). Once it was mounted I never had a problem with the gate not going up.
All the TBTA bridges/tunnels have toll gates (except for the Henry Hudson), so if it doesn't read, the gate won't go up. Those toll sensors are pretty finicky, the gate never went up with the ezpass in my pocket. I used to shift into neutral and hold up the pass with my throttle hand, but that was a pain.

Forgot to add, ezpass just started issuing a new motorcycle pass, it's about 1/2 the size of the normal ezpass but much thicker. Those new ones definitely won't fit in the regular holder. Not sure if you have to specially request it or they automatically issue them now.

Have also had ez pass fail to register with no consequences except once. When I received notice of a fine there was a number to call. All I had to do was tell them I had an account and they dismissed it.

In a perfect world I'd try and stick it under the seat but I can't imagine that would work. Still, sounds like you almost don't even need it as long as your plate is registered. None of the booths I've ever seen up here have gates.

i have the small motorcycle one. couldn't get it to work in my pocket at all when using the midtown tunnel or the triboro, kept having to take it out and try waving it around..that was pretty unsuccessful too and patient car drivers of nyc loved having to wait for the attendant to come and help me. Been using it with a tank bag that i take on trips and it always works, but I dont like using my tank bag all the time. I have a dart flyscreen coming..I'll stick the velcro tabs in that, down by the clocks...don't think it will look as ugly as riding around with a tank bag all the time. Where in Brooklyn are you Eric?
