Here in North Texas, they take pictures of your plate as you are going through, which serves the same purpose. I've got a decal, but never put it on either bike, and still get billed.

Yeah, I tried holding in my hand as well and couldn't get it to work reliably. Got frustrated, nearly dropped it, cars started honking - at that point I would have taped it to the center of my visor if I had tape...

I just got a new one because my old one worked about 10% of the time (NYC & NJ). My new one works probably 70% of the time... I keep it in the top of my tankbag (no room anywhere else). It's really annoying, esp. when there's no attendant around. I'm sure the cars behind me get extremely pissed when that happens.

Do you ever just go through even without the green light? From what it sounds like even if they issue you a ticket you can just get it dismissed.
