Direct-wiring your headlight to the battery with a 30 (I think) amp relay and some decent-gauge wire, using the stock wiring to flip said relay works quite well to brighten things.
Other than that, there are sadly few options for the 5.5" headlight crowd. =/
You could install an HID rig, too (which also accomplishes, or should, the above.) Some D-H4R or D4R with an H4 base should work fine. They just need to be 'R' so they're shielded to work properly with a reflector housing, rather than a projector housing.
If you do want to go with LED auxiliary (driving/fog) lights, you could look here. These are pretty inexpensive, and really put out a hell of a lot of light:
