So, in town riding equals bad for gas!

Yesterday, I filled up the bonnie with 1.75 gallons for 56 miles worth of in town driving only. Ugh! After taking her for a ride down the coast & back through the national forest, I got 150 miles on 3.5 gallons! Do most of you find your Bonnie lass to be so thirsty in town?

Yep. I bounce between 42 and 35 mpg for mixed driving. More city and I get 35. More highway and I get 42. Was frustrating me so I stopped checking it.

I'll post here because I'm too lazy to point you toward a number of threads that discuss this at length - and I mean no insinuation here. But there is lots of info about SE gas mileage.

Riding conservatively in town I get 45 mpg
I regularly get 50 - 52 mpg at 60-65 mph
I have gotten over 60 mph on days when I kept it between 50 and 55 mph, burning more than a tankful.
As little as 40 mpg burning more than a tankful at 75 - 80 on the freeway.

The mileage on these bikes is very sensitive to road speed and agressive acceleration.

For my purposes I pay no attention to how much gas it consumes - I ride only for pleasure.

Routinely in the low to mid 40s mpg, regardless of riding conditions.

I average 50mpg but I do only 20% in town driving. I did notice a big drop when I use ethanol gas. I do the best I can to stay away from that stuff in all my motorcycles. Thank God we have three stations near by that still have 100% gas.

Everyone- thanks for your replies! I just felt I had to share my amazement.

PopPop- I guess I'm a little lazy on thread retrieval myself. I jusdt felt amazed at the stark differences between fill-ups, & I didn't really even baby the bike for the last one.

I wish I could find real gas and not ethanol crap. Oh how I wish we no longer burned corn in our engines. What a crap idea.
