I rode my Steamer to Staten Island this past weekend, hoping to be put on motorcycle duty. They have way more donations than they can handle and what they really need is manpower. So I had to park the bike and help unload trucks instead. Not as interesting, but whatever helps...

Great work! Once you get out to those areas it really hits home how much they just need PEOPLE on the ground. I'm going back down this weekend and honestly I hope the communication system is better so that I can stop riding around and start actually working. What I've been doing is really helpful, but I got to do a little demo work last week and that's REALLY what needs to happen right now. Felt like a much more concrete contribution. Regardless, riding out saves you a ton of time because of the congested traffic.

I gotta say, the NYPD were totally cool and let me go to the front of the line at 110th St. It was pretty cold out and my wife was on the back. They said something about 3 gallons or less did not have to wait.

JUST pulled up to the Shell station around the corner from my place in Brooklyn, no cops, no lines, no license plate check, filled up, paid with a credit card, pulled out. 3 minutes. NORMALCY! That exact station was on the front page of the NY Times one week ago as an example of the chaos. That crap was Mad Max nuts for a while.
