Apparently this is normal behaviour of those sort of batteries at low temperatures. I seem to remember the maker recommends the battery is warmed up by turning on the ignition and the headlamp for a couple of minutes before attempting to crank the engine. The current drawn wakes up the battery.

I was aware that these batteries do have issue with the cold. Maybe it's that combined with the high ecu shutoff voltage for the starter but it can't even engage the starter. That with a key on voltage of 12.0v I don't think it would be able to start the bike even if it could crank.
