Hi, I am looking for a hinged gas cap for my 03 T100, the paint in and around the opening has flaked away and I thought I could stop this from getting worse with a hinged cap. Anyone know of a good source for one ? Thanks

+1 on the New Bonneville Monza. I put mine on the day I got the bike and it's worked out fine. A great cap!

I may be having the same problem on my '03. Fuel will still be able to contact the tank's lining under the seal of any gas cap, hinged or not. It's the lining that seems to be flaking off.

I did the homemade version. Paid $60 for an alloy cap from uk eBay and got a spare oem cap just in case I messed up. Whole thing took about a half hour start to finish and came out great. 300 miles and working great.

Yes, but the aluminium adapter that a Monza kit comes with will protect the filler neck of the tank from contact with a petrol pump nozzle and reduce the amount of paint flaking off.

Sounds about right to me. I haven't experienced any paint loss and am actually having a hard time envisioning the precise location of such flaking. Anyone have a good close up photo of the problem?

what flakes paint off, is contamination of the primer.
small chips made bu the filler hose nozzle, allow the gas to come in contact with the primer. Primer is very soft, and when it absorbs gas it breaks down, leaving nothing between the metal and the paint.

Some tanks are a real pain to paint, because you know that they will peel, and you know it will be owner carelessness that causes it, but you cannot always explain that to the customer, and make them understand

Monza looks perfect, going to have a go at the DIY version. Of course I will have to get the damn bike started first ....
