I know, there's another forum for sport bikes HOWEVER I was wondering WHY most car/cycle companies rarely give a "good" reason for stopping production of a model that has been around a long time.
In the latest edition of Torque magazine they state that 2006 is the last year for the Daytona 955i. My first thought was why stop making it unless it isn't selling. The reason they give is that they want to "concentrate" on the smaller Daytona 675. The 675 has 125HP while the 955i has 145HP. Seems to me in this day and age when power rules (aka, sells) they would want to concentrate on the one w/more power considering it's a "sport" bike. Triumph was pretty quick to point out the prodigious HP and Torque figures of the R3 wern't they. I'm sure many people bought that bike primarily because of those power numbers. I know I'm still curious and would love to rest ride a motorcycle that produces 145 lbs. of Torque.
My quess is the 955i wasn't selling well enough to keep building them.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it come back with a 1050 OR LARGER motor. I would be dumbfounded to see the range without a large bore Daytona. Just seems weird. Maybe the Busa killer 1400 Daytona will be revamped with a Triple. Needs to be a big new motor to go REAL that fast. If Triumph put out a 1050 with usd forks and fairing, maybe four pad brakes, that'd be cool. Hey, T100 guys can write about any bike they want....thats the whole idea!

I read that article and wondered the same thing, PA guy. I wonder if the competition is to stiff at that engine size range.
I wouldn't mind having a black 955i with the U.J. nose art.
I noticed a sickening article heralding the success of the Paul Smith Bonnevilles. Let's just hope that is some P.R. propaganda.

It would not bother me too much, if they replaced it with a shaft driven, litre size, triple sport touring machine along the lines of an ST 1300 or similar type.
The Triumph range totally neglects this segment.

Oh, the 955I was probably dropped for the same reason as the 4 cyl. 600 Daytona. It just cannot compete at the price they sell it for.

Blitz, you may have more insight than you know. My dealer has 'suggested' there may be a shaft drive coming up. IMHO, and from my years on a BMW, if you're really gonna cover miles, shaft is answer. :-D

They're not! It's no big secret. That's exactly why they're "going to concentrate" on something that stands to be a lot hotter in the marketplace.
The Daytona WILL NOT be back with a 1050 or larger motor. The reasons for this have been made clear in recent issues of Torque. It seems pretty clear they're going to take some time and see what they can do with sub-liter models before they introduce any new models with larger engines again.

Can't imagine what difference it makes. Covering miles has lots to do with ergonomics and virtually nothing to do with the drive method! But if you like BMW giving you the shaft, well, to each his own.

Hey Diego...when is that S3 going to reveal it's name? It must be the most neglected of the bunch. :???:
Yeah, it's unfortunate when somthing so attached to the brand name is gone.
But, do you chnage it totally, repackage it, and throw the recognizable name on a totally different product or just move on. I think this shows Triumph is capable of making necessary changes.
