Don't know. The data comes from the horses mouth. Both those changes, the relay and the location of the Allen key were announced in Triumph's Tecnical News number TN131 in January 2012.
Note that the VIN numbers the Factory refers to are just the last 6 figures, like this:

I see, so since my VIN is 51xxxx it is below the number where they switched to 2 pin flashers, that explains why mine is still the 3 pin model. Interesting.

Can you post a link to the $109 unit you are referring to? I'm happy to help in the search and I'm curious to know what you're looking at.
This isn't as tidy as a pure swap for the existing relay, but looks like an easy enough unit to install.
For those with the 2012+ models with 2-pin denso plug. The SM-3S apears to be the answer if you are looking for a self cancelling relay. I just ordered on and will post results
