Extra Motorcycle: dya mean the one outside?
Hi folks,

Firstly, HI - new to this site and already glad I found it.

Facts on the ground:
I'm in the process of fitting the Wiseco 904cc big bore kit into my (formerly) 790 01 Bonnie (if your doing likewise check out "Pat's Triumph Site" - very good). I've already fitted a pair of TORS and am about to dispense with the AI.
I'm at the point of buying a jet kit and a different air filter to make the most of the above though I plan to keep the CVK carbs and the stock airbox.
I've heard about various jetting kits (Dynojet, Freak) and filters (K&N, DNA) but have become a bit lost in the fog of information.

Now my question(s):
What's the best combination of parts/settings?
How do they affect performance/reliability/economy even?
What additional tweaks should I look at?

I'm sure there must be plenty of others out there who've gone down this road. So, any ideas guys?

.................................................. ...............................................

Incidentally, if anyone else is thinking about getting a Wiseco 904 big bore kit (part no. CK149), here are some UK price comparisons for you to consider (supply only - you'll still need to sort out the barrel rebore and fitting yourself):
Norman Hyde = £459 + VAT = £539.33
Wiseco UK (AKA "Eastwood Racing") = £355 inc VAT
eBay.UK seller "harrisxr69" (AKA "Gremlin Racetech") = £285.95 + £9.95 P&P
I got mine from Wiseco UK and only found the eBay seller after my kit was delivered so I don't know how reliable he is (but he does have 99.8% + feedback).
All the same, as a Scotsman words fail me!

I'm also about to do a bit of searching around for jet kit and filter prices, so if anyone is interested I'll get back to you with my results.

Cheers Ben.

So far I've found a variety of UK prices for the Dynojet Bonnevile kit (stage 1 - part no: 5117.002) ranging as follow:

Dynojet Direct = £106.80
Norman Hyde = £105.75
apexleisure.co.uk = £90.45 (£82.50 + £7.95 P&P)
Motorcycle Road & Race = £82.50 (inc P&P)
Performance Motorcycle Parts = £75.21 (£70.21 + £5.00 P&P)
Jack Lilley = £71.74 (£59.99 + £11.75 P&P)

I haven't even started on eBay yet, but already it just goes to show how much you can save simply by having a quick look around.

More progress - thus another quick update/thankyou

In the Club Cafe/Bonnie & Thruxton tuning notes topic there is an excellent link to Jenks' Bolts (and a very useful PDF file) courtesy of "agro".

Cheers agro - good call.

keef,
To get the best out of a 904 you need a NARK. To go to all the trouble and expense of big bore and not NARKing would be like adjusting your throttle so you couldn't use it all.
Get hold of a pair of thruxton needles (dealer only) and a few jets start at 150 or 155 mains and 42 pilots I'd say at a guess. Tyen when it's run in get it on a dyno.

Cheers Darcy. Sounds like a good start - I'll look into it asap.
Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with the term "NARK" (which I assume to be an acronym). Can you enlighten me please?
[I input the following into Google: "NARK carburetor jet" - you wouldn't believe sh*t that came up]

Also, interesting thoughts regarding the airbox/bellmouth topic - something else for me to chew over now.

Aha, gotcha - Newbonnevile.com Airbox Removal Kit - right, now I'm getting somewhere. Time for some more UK pricing I think.

Congrats keef on the big bore..NARK is an acronym for an airbox elimination kit...comes with individual airfilters for each carb ;this greatly increases airflow into the carbs...more power for those extra cc's.NARK type units are available from New Bonneville .com or British Customs.com or Bella Corse.....Jenks or Mototwin might have them as well.
Try posting this at Delphi's New Triumph Bonneville forum;they have a few guys running the Wiseco set up.Try pm ing "Dinqua" Pat Whitbeck here;he can steer you in the right direction as far as jetting.Really though,an email to Mike at Bella Corse or Brent at New Bonneville will get you set up with filters, airbox replacement, jets, just about all you're gonna need except needles(if you decide to replace those,a Triumph dealer is the place).Oh yeah WELCOME to the forum...first time I've seen anyone list thier wife under rides :-D

Thanks for that pointer - very much appreciated. A few hours of shut-eye (it's 01:25hrs here) and I'll be straight onto that info.
I'm hoping to have the work done in time to be back on the road for the new year. With the help I'm finding on this forum, I might actually achieve that.

[Oh, by the way, I was thinking of saying "the sister-in-law" but I thought that might get me strangled in the middle of the night.]

Another update for those of you who might be interested -

I've had a few emails in response to my quest. Here are some highlights.

The news from Bella Corse is that they are expecting a new style of airbox kit to be in stock in three weeks or so. My thanks go to Mike (at source) for that info.

Also, Oliver Cole at Mototwin tells me that he is awaiting some specially made for him by his supplier, presumably fairly soon.

I'm very grateful to Pete Jenks (at Jenks' Bolts) who observed that, regarding the South Bay Triumph air box elimination kit: "neither it or the NARK are very well shaped to work as the rear mudguard, a function that outside of the back (stock) airbox performs."
He suggested that: "it would be just as easy, and probably cheaper, to buy a second airbox from Triumph and cut out the airbox front part and upper sides, to clear the air intakes. This allows all the other functions of the airbox to remain and the space previously occupied by the air filter becomes a useful storage space."
Wise words indeed, I suspect.

Ok, so I might not be burning rubber for the new year but I'm sure I'm making progress.

Ergo: does anyone over my way have a spare airbox they want rid of - I feel a spot of surgery coming on.

keef, welcome to the site. Hope your BB kit goes well.

I was looking at what your "rides" are under you name and just wondered about one of them..... when you say "the wife" are you referring to your own wife, or someone elses wife?????? :???:
