i guess this is something they much have done with the 05 cruiser air boxes, at least the 05' speedy anyway. I checked it out just now and the plate is a molded part of the airbox, not a sperate removable plate. I really wanted to remove it darn it !

Daz, is the entire airbox removal an option for the speedy?

Mark..I'll run down and check.

Oh yea. They have a kit called the freak for them thats the same as the nark but for the cruisers. And i've thought about doing that but i'm just afraid it won't make much difference as opposed to my modded airbox. I'd like to cut the plate out but it's not reversible in case it changes the airbox tuning for the worse.

I forgot that I had the manual right here but I had to look in my old airbox anyway just to make sure.

Nope. no restrictor plate. Its all solid molded plastic in there too.

Guess all the 05's and later are like that. I bet they did it because some people have had thier airbox explode after a nasty backfire. The molded one probably re-inforces the box against that sort of thing.

It's not real common, but not rare either. Probably on older bikes. Do a search for something like "explode" on BA and you should find some posts about it. Thats where i read about it.

I should have explained that what happens apparently is if the bike backfires hard enough the pressure it puts in the airbox is powerfull enough that the box shatters because the pressure can't escape thru the filter and/or restrictor fast enough. So the plastic gives.

Edit: i really gotta start reading my typo infected posts before i submit them ! :brk:
