I had to google around a bit to find the definition of this expression. I'm still wondering 'why' it means what it does.
I find myself having to look up any number of expressions used in this forum. Which is fun. Vocabulary is a big part of learning anything new.
Anyone know of a Book of Motorcycle Jargon, or a web site of a similar vein?

Being a ton up pirate myself I often use the expression to express exceeding 100 mph. I wear a ton up patch on one of my MC vests along with a round 59 club patch. Get a lot of inquiries from my non Brit bike friends. Ton up you 59 Rocker! Joe :-D

A "ton" being a large weight, and hard to obtain directly relates to vintage bikes and their ability to obtain 100 mph which was also difficult at the time. The term is fairly obsolete now since it is quite easy to reach 100 mph, but if you do, you can't tell all your friends you were "ton up" on the way home and you best be able to explain it.
I don't really know if what I just explained was correct or relevent, but it sort of make sense....I guess.
:-D :???: :-D

Joe- You are the classic example of why I feel completely lost at times. Maybe you could put together a lexicon of biker expressions for us.
I actually went to the boozefighters web site today- another term I had know idea about. Some interesting history and pics.
Zelmo's?

Zelmo's Full Moon Saloon on Plainfield Rd in Joliet. One of three well known biker bars in Joliet. Many of my adventures start and end in this, my favorite watering hole in town. Friday and Saturday nights will find the saloon jammed full of a who's who in Joliet Bikerdom to include the Outlaws and Black Pistons-1%ers to the max. Everybody knows each other and people who get out of hand get an unceremonious escort to the door. Last week we had one punk head butted and tossed out for sucker punching one of our drunk Bros, a street bum stomped out the door for stealing bar change, and a crackhead whore run out the back door for ensconcing herself in the ladies room. With the jukebox blaring out everything from the Stones to Black Label Society people congregate in the open spaces and dance and have a lot of fun. Three pool tables and a fantastic kitchen round out the tavern along with an assortment of barmaids-all tens!! It's the kind of place you can bring a lady to. Ya, if you ever pass this way, make sure you stop by and say hello. Glad you were able to visit the Boozefighters site. Read the book-it's great!! Joe :-D :-D

I checked out Zelma's via the Reign Man rock band website.

Where are the potted ferns?
Can I get a Cosmopolitan, with a little parasol swizzle stick?

Looks like a fun joint.

I've been to Joliet a few times (used to live downstate). It reminded me of Peoria but a little rougher round the edges.

I always felt like I could get jumped at anytime. If I ever go back I'm warning everyone that I'm under Joe the Boozefighter's protection SO BACK OFF!

Speaking of their site I liked reading this :
The Chronicles of JQ

Joe, if you aren't a Boozefighter, you sure should be! :-D

No Boozefighter MC chapters here in IL. And there ain't no way that the Outlaws would allow another three patch club in Joliet or vicinity. Believe me I've asked about it. Most of these cats have never heard of the BIRs and they wouldn't care if you wore their patch or not because it's a specialty club devoted to Brit bikes and poses no threat to their territory. Lot's of them ride Triumphs as their secondary bike anyway. Hells Angels have a Chicago Chapter and clubhouse over in Harvey, but they don't come to Joliet unless they have an invite and OK from the Outlaws. Lots of smaller clubs out in the boondocks and they got an invite to party at the Outlaws clubhouse last Friday. After-wards, the party moved up to Zelmo's and I got the pleasure to meet quite a few of these folks and check out their patches. Joe
