Just returned from a visit to the island of Maui, Hawaii. Such a great place and if only I had my Bonnie. Outstanding climate and roads are just made for riding.

The Road to Hana begins at Paia and ends beyond Hana. About 45 mile ride with 600 turns and just about as many bridges. Elevation from sea level to about 300 or more feet.

I hope every one has the opportunity to visit this beautiful Island and ride it's great roads.

If I weren't so cold I'd be jealous and angry.

This is a fantastic stretch of asphalt!! Having lived on Maui for a number of years, I know the road you took well. Aside from having all of those turns and bridges and the scenery, there are literally hundreds of places to stop, relax, and look around. If you return to fulfill your dream motorcycle ride on Maui, continue the run around the back (south) side of the Island. You will find almost no cagers or very few at that, and you can twist the throttle as hard as you want. Very little if any 5-O (Law Enforcement). The scenery changes as well, from lush jungle green to almost West Texas desertscape. Pretty neat actually. Ton-Up and Ride on!!

I have been lucky enough to take that ride . It's definatly a slow ride with all the tourist cars, but it's so beautiful there you don't want to go fast anyway! Maui No Ka'Oi. BillWhite

If you have to ride in a cage, try a Jeep Wrangler with the top off and the doors off..it was almost exciting at that point! We got to smell everything, got wet, got dirt in our eyes...gee, remind you of anything?

This is a late repl, but I did the road to Hana about 24-25 years ago on a rented Honda CB750F with my wife on the back. The road back then was left in a state of disrepair on purpose (lots of potholes) in order to keep the traffic down(or so I was told). We stayed for a couple of nights at a ranch there in a rented cabin.

Wife and I were there in June for our 25th. We passed on the road to Hana because of the traffic. We did do the similar South-side in our Toyota convertible, with a 12' surfboard sticking out of the back. Awesome place. Didn't have time to rent a bike, definitely next time (I literally never wanted to leave the beach). Ran in to a guy on one of those new Suzuki super-motor bikes, great choice for those roads.

Another great ride would be to the to of the Haleakala Volcano and back, or around the West coast, or..... you get the idea! <g>
