Scram mods finished-for now

I bought my scram at the end of last year, and apart from riding it back from London, it's sat in the garage in bits ever since. I was very unhappy with the factory seat, and then read up on a number of mods on here and decided that I wanted to change some stuff. I am not claiming to have done anything original, but thought you might like a look.

The factory rear shocks went in the parts bin, and Ricor intmidators went in the front end. I ditched the AI after much reading on here and with the help of tuneecu (so thanks for all the info).

I really didn't like the clock/headlight setup, so that came off. I wanted to retain the factory clock, in case I ever want to sell it the mileage will be true. The headlight shell is from an WD BSA with a Lucas rim and Wipac lens. I had to enlarge and drill various holes, and retained the trip. I read about the Reg/Rect being poor quality and have replaced it with a mosfet unit......doesn't sound much, but has taken me a while to get right. Here are the pictures. Rob

Love the headlight mod, it extends the vintage look; somehow it makes it look faster, probably because of its "sleekness."

Looks like you retained the stock bars. For me the tips up of the stock bars make for dis-comfort in the wrists/elbows.
Maybe try some classic flat track style bars? They are comfortable.

Other than that observation your bike looks sleeper clean and not over done.
Nice touches!

Thanks for the comments. When I looked at the factory bars I found that they were canted too far forward and up. I flattened them in line with the switchgear and found the riding position much improved. Interestingly, I looked at another scram in a dealers and the handlebars on that were likewise poorly adjusted.

The Reg/rect under the tank is cool, you fab. that mounting bracket?
And the headlight/speedo swap is slick!! Might have to steal that one. Great job.

Yep, the reg bracket was made out of some 5mmx40mm alloy bar. I had a mate weld it and painted it black. The reg is a MOSFET FH008 (i think)

I've taken the plunge and started some wiring mods today. Having replaced the Rec/Reg I wanted to remove the wiring from the loom, and re-locate the ignition switch to the right hand side using a joker bracket. As the headlight is filled full of wires, I decided to strip out the ignition switch wires and move them back under the tank to make a bit more space. There is a small (green) link wire between the ignition switch wiring and one of the handlebar wiring connectors. I have had to snip it to pull the wiring back, and will have to put a short section of wire in to reconnect this. I am going to use the live and earth from the rec/reg as an auxilliary power supply, so will be fitting a good quality waterproof connector. I'm going to see if I can find some high quality PVC electrical tape to re-wrap the loom, as the last lot I bought, the glue came off the tape when you tried to apply it!!. I'll keep you updated as soon as I have progress.
