Beautiful ROB- you'll have to report back on how it handles!. I practiced a long time before I felt confident enough to play in traffic. Then it took a while to get comfortable at highway speeds. Found out at Triumphs in Taos that there are probably only 3 scrambler rigs in the US. Obviously mine is the coolest!
A very wise woman told me to get a comfortable seat since I'm sitting on a million dollars.
I had a 20 minute lesson from watsonian then faced the 150 mile drive home.....interesting......in the first 20 miles I thought ' what have I done to my beautiful scrambler' . I got on the motorway and the bike sat rock solid at around 75mph....the only problem being....it's black, and when it got dark I couldn't see the sidecar!.... made it home safely and exhausted. There is no doubt that driving a rig is physically demanding. Have driven it a couple of times since, and it's growing on me. I've just installed western bars, which have brought the bars back a lot....I found full lock a stretch.(interestingly, the factory scram bars and the western bars are the same width 32")...I'm waiting on some replacement triumph America cables. I don't know anything about tyre choice....I am wondering if there would be anything to gain by fitting a sidecar tyre on the front. I am going to fit a Dart screen and am thinking about fitting a car battery in the future.
I just double checked my figures and they make only 200 units per year. Watsonian also import the enfield bikes. If you look at the history section on watsonians website it gives some quite amazing figures on how few sidecars are in use in the u k... The figures date back to 2003 but show an increase of ownership to over 7000 sidecars on the road in the uk. My personal opinion is that sidecars are considered odd and quirky having non of the benefits of either a car or a motorcycle
The dvla no longer show motorcycle and sidecar as a seperate group unless it is a URAL.
Nor do the police show them seperately in accident stats they are all now just motorcycles.
Here is a update on my Cozy sidecar as of 11/18/12. The bike is put away for the winter and it is time to do some work on the Cozy. The Cozy is a well built car but the finish leaves something to be desired. The tub and fender came off today to have the small metal imperfections addressed and then repainted. The lights wil be replaced and I am looking for a car interior outfit to make a carpet mat for the interior. The arm rests are going to be recovered as they came with small tears. The new Hagon shock has arrived to replace the stock which does not work very well. For the money it was a good deal, but expect to spend some to get fit and finish that matchs the bike you have attached it to.
