I know the last factory upgrade was the 865cc big bore version. That gave the torque a little boost at low RPM. I think the next step would be to increase the stroke enough for 17cc per cylinder. The additional 34cc would make the twin displace 899cc. I think that along with some breathing tweaks could liven up the Bonneville. The 865cc could then be the standard motor with the 899cc the top model. This seems like a logical evolution of this power plant.

I like the way you think...That, done correctly, could boost compression and increase bottom end torque. Then the rev limiter might be closer to being correct.....naaaa, the rev limiter should be at 8,100rpm with forged parts. Any Mod. shops thought of this mod yet? Very interesting....clearences would have to be investigated. I hope Daz doesn't see this! :-D .

Well here's a few things Daz DOESN'T see. For example, Daz isn't sure what a "stroker" is. Hopefully it's not what it sounds like. :-D I'm thinkin it's an engine with a long stroke? But if so, whats that got to do with a very few more cc's and how would 34 cc's make any difference? Now if those are stupid questions it just goes to show you that Daz don't see a lot of things. But he does know good beer senior. :-D

now on the serious side, i WOULD like to see a speedy with a few HUNDRED more cc's, higher CR, forged pistons and rods that puts 80 HP to the rear wheel. This would be a serious drool machine for me.

I just had a thought......why wouldn't triumph want to post at a forum like this, especially this one since it's the biggest most prolific triumph forum, and ask us what we'd like to see?! Maybe i'm missing something, but it seems to me that just looking at the market and deciding what to build next wouldn't be as accurate. After all, looking at the market in general may be good in that it's a way to lure non-triumph riders over. But building what triumph owners really want would insure truckloads of new sales. as i've said before i'd find it next to impossible to hang on to my bike as much as i love it if a 1200 80 or 100 HP speedy were to arrive. And by probing us (no, not that kind of probe you pigs :-D ) they could look at the average of what we want and be assured of lots of repeat sales if they build what we want.

maybe i AM missing something but thats what it seems like to me. One simple post i would think would give them some valuable information with zero effort. :???:

In the UK , a stroker , means a two-stroke engine.....
Hmmm , now that's a thought..

I love the smell of napalm in the morning,
It smells of victory , or triumph , definately one of the two.

The new Hurricane was the '97-'99 Thunderbird sport. Mine has clip-ons and single seat unit and goes like pooh off a stick!

If triumph had introduced the bonnie at 1000 cc you would be thinking of ways to get it up to 1100cc.... I am sure on the r3 forums there are people looking for big bore kits..
but why piddle about with 34cc ? that just a 4% difference...?
If you going to increase engine size, do it right and add a third cylinder. like this:=
1939 triumph introduce 500cc speed twin
1949 triumph add a big bore kit to make the 650cc thunderbird ( incidentally Turner, it s designer thought 650cc was as big as you could get with this engine without severe vibration problems-- he was right )
1972 triumph ups teh bore to 725cc later to 750cc
triumph reduces compression to compensate for vibration
1969 triumph introduce 750cc 3 cylinder machine essentially 1 1/2 speed twins ( modern short stroke motor)
triumph design and build prototype 1000cc 4 cylinder machine, two speed twins, but went bust before it made production, shame because it was tried in the norton featherbed frame ( at the time of NVT)
so on this basis in about 3 years time expect to see a rocket 4 with a 3.2 liter motor and a tribon at 1200cc
but i wouldn't take anything too seriously
